Trip G of Oklahoma City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Trip G. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Trip , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me starts off with morning prayers, taking my daughter to school, then I hit the gym for about an hour and afterwards im locked in the studio for hours. Whether its writing, editing or producing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Trip G — a rapper and producer from Oklahoma City. I’ve dropped 8 albums, 3 EPs, and over 40 music videos. I also run a platform called TripNFriends where I put on for other artists, and I host a podcast called Blunt Convo where we chop it up about life, music, and everything in between.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Theres two moments for me that really shaped my view. Losing my pops at 18 showed me that no matter what you are going through, you still have to push through. The world doesn’t stop for anyone. Next would be when I had my daughter at 20. Being a young parent matured me fast.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh yea definitely, theres been several times I’ve almost threw in the towel. In those moments where I feel like giving up, I take a break and readjust. Ask my spirit is this journey for me and every time the answer is yes! Just takes God, consistency and perseverance.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
My integrity. I think in todays culture and society integrity is what separates A LOT of people. Having the strength to not follow every trend or lifestyle someone is promoting is important.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I never gave up. That I stayed 10 toes down on my path in life and didn’t allow anything to waver me from my true passion in life. Music.
