Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Snipes.
Hi Susan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I first got into Human Resources after serving in the US Peace Corps in Zambia, Africa. It was through my work teaching adult learners that I realized that I wanted to professionally support employees in the workplace. When I returned from the Peace Corps, I attended a job fair that included The Salvation Army, which is the organization that provided me with my first HR experience. I ultimately moved from nonprofit to for profit and worked in a few different industries before founding an HR consulting firm. Through consulting I connected with Remote People and became their Head of People. I now support Remote People’s business operation strategy by providing guidance and tactical support in a number of areas.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building up my book of business was a challenge when I first started out as a consultant. I had to leverage loss leads where I took on projects at a low bill rate until I got my ratings up on UpWork and until I started getting a lot of referrals from happy customers. Since I’m now well established, business is running smoothly. Supporting Remote People has been a great opportunity to problem solve and to leverage my consulting skills, and I look forward to helping Remote People continue to grow and to offer exceptional HR, payroll and benefits solutions to companies of all industries and sizes.
