Inspiring Conversations with Ebony Coleman of Wellness Redefined

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Coleman.

Ebony , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My career in health care started more than twelve years ago with a desire to help people feel well both physically and emotionally. I became a Family Nurse Practitioner and spent eight years in traditional medicine, but I kept seeing women suffering in silence with exhaustion, gut issues, anxiety, and burnout while being told everything was fine. I knew they deserved more.
My own turning point came during a period of intense stress in a toxic relationship. I developed perioral dermatitis that would not go away. My body was expressing the pain I was trying to hide. As a survivor of domestic violence, I learned firsthand that trauma affects every system of the body. The gut, hormones, brain, and skin all respond to our emotional environment.
In my lowest moments, my faith is what carried me. Jesus Christ led me to functional medicine and learning how root cause approaches can help to remove stressors and reduce inflammation. He placed me on a path where I could help others heal and reclaim their lives. Every step of this journey is because of Him.
In 2021, I launched my functional medicine practice, Wellness Redefined, to deliver care that looks at the whole person. I became a gut health expert because the gut influences immune health, hormones, metabolism, and mental well being. I am also continuing my education in psychiatric mental health to strengthen the mind body spirit connection, because healing requires all three.
I believe healing is possible with daily decisions. Sleep, nourishment, movement, mindset, faith. These choices either support our health or erode it. Women carry so much and are often the last to receive support. My mission is to help them feel like themselves again and restore hope. Healing is real. I have lived it, and I teach it every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I have faced personal and professional challenges that forced me to either grow or stay stuck. Looking back now, I understand that it was all purposeful. Leaving toxic relationships were hard. The stress from that season led to my own health issues like adrenal dysfunction. I was learning in real time that the body reflects the environments we tolerate. It takes courage and faith to walk away and rebuild your life and identity.
On the professional side, breaking away from traditional medicine to start my own functional medicine practice was another leap. I continue to work hard in a stable career and support my next steps in functional medicine simutaneously. Entrepreneurship is not glamorous. There is risk, financial pressure, self doubt, and a steep learning curve. At the same time, continuing my education to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner while raising a family and running a business has required relentless resilience and discipline.
What kept me moving was a clear purpose. Jesus Christ gave me strength and direction when nothing made sense. I have learned that healing is not linear. There are setbacks and days when survival is the only goal. But every challenge taught me how to better support the women I serve. My struggles gave me empathy and a deeper understanding of how stress, trauma, and neglect of self can damage health over time. Those experiences shaped the way I practice today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Wellness Redefined is a functional medicine practice focused on helping women heal from the inside out. I specialize in gut health, hormone balance, nervous system regulation, and inflammation reduction. Women come to me when they are tired of feeling tired, frustrated with throwing money at supplements and programs that do not work, and ready for real answers about what is happening in their bodies.
I am known for connecting the dots between symptoms that are often dismissed. Bloating, stubborn weight changes, anxiety, mood swings, sleep problems, brain fog, and chronic stress are not random. They are warning signs that the gut, hormones, and nervous system are overwhelmed. My approach uses lab testing, personalized plans, education, and lifestyle strategies that actually move the needle.Gut the Stress is my signature group program built for women who are done guessing and ready to finally understand their bodies. It combines weekly coaching, education, and real accountability so you are not trying to change your health alone in your kitchen. You get support lowering inflammation, improving gut function, balancing stress hormones, and rebuilding energy from the inside out. It is for the woman who keeps doing everything right but still feels off. It is for the woman noticing early signs of hormone shifts or autoimmunity and refuses to ignore them. The power is in the community. You are surrounded by women who get it and who want to rise with you. You get answers that make sense and changes you can feel in your daily life. This is not a quick fix or a mystery cleanse. It is a clear path back to feeling like yourself again. It changes you if you let it.What sets Wellness Redefined apart is that I treat the whole person. I do not guess. I do not give quick fixes. I look at gut function, cortisol patterns, sleep, nutrition, mindset, and the emotional weight women are carrying. My goal is not just symptom relief. It is true transformation so they can show up in their lives with more confidence, better energy, and restored health.
I want readers to know that they do not have to accept feeling unwell as their new normal. Your body is always trying to heal. You just need the right support to help it do what it was designed to do. Wellness Redefined exists to give women that support and to remind them that healing is possible and worth fighting for.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am always learning and I lean on a few resources that keep me growing both personally and professionally. Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz is a great book for understanding the connection between female hormones, fasting, and metabolic health. Her YouTube channel is also a solid resource for women who want practical guidance without confusion.
Breath by James Nestor changed the way I teach stress regulation. Simple breathing techniques can calm the nervous system, improve sleep, and support gut function. It is a reminder that healing tools do not always come in a bottle.
I also study through the Institute for Functional Medicine. Their research and training help me bring the most up to date, evidence based strategies into my practice so my patients get care that actually supports long term healing.
My goal is to always stay curious, keep learning, and bring the best information forward so the women I serve do not have to waste time or energy on things that will not help them feel better.
