Rising Stars: Meet Kaitlyn Winters of Dallas and Mabank TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Winters.

Hi Kaitlyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started with the passion for photography in high school. Doing film and black rooms and digital, and then including editing software like Photoshop and Lightroom. Then I joined the military I join the army and I still had an interest in photography, but I pushed it to the side once I got out of the military I started doing nails, but I just wasn’t in love with it, especially after having my second kid I just did not like the smells and It felt more like a job than a passion so I picked back up the camera. I bought more gear, lights and a backdrop and from there It just took off. A year and a half ago I was bartering photo shoots for house cleanings and doing $75 mini sessions in my backyard and now I’m doing full-fledged weddings photography, videography, drone you name it. I’m also doing all the editing myself. I’m dove deep into it and when you really love something it’s not like work, it’s art.. and I love making art. In addition to weddings I also do businesses as far as social media marketing website. Anything business would need photography or videography for even covering conferences. I also do events like baby showers and elopements or any other type of event really.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. It was a huge learning curve, teaching myself how to use Lightroom and Photoshop and edit people out of photos. Making pictures fit the vibe that you want for your overall portfolio learning your style learning what you love the most dealing with a lot of small shoots to grow And really just perseverance to keep going and not let any bad experiences or learning curves Throw you off the tracks although there wasn’t very many bad experiences there was more just a lot of learning curves and adjustments being made to really find the niche that I wanted to get into here and once I stepped into weddings and businesses, I haven’t looked anywhere else. Those are my favorite things to do making videos for businesses like TikTok’s and all that fun stuff. Was also really difficult to get here because if I hadn’t joined the army and go through everything I went through there I wouldn’t be here today doing what I love. If I didn’t need my husband, I wouldn’t be here because he has supported me so much. He’s invested in gear. He took steps that I wouldn’t have like investing in a drone and mic’d and investing in a cinematic came anybody. His support has really paved the road into not giving up .

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So what i have landed on after all the learning curves and experiences that we’ve gone through is I really love businesses and weddings so for businesses I like to do their social media videos and pictures and even ones that they would use for their website. I’ve dived into real estate photography and video which I still do some of that, but I really focus on businesses and weddings. I specialize in timeless color grading, which is a style that just doesn’t go out of style. You could look back at them forever and it’s not like a specific style. It’s more just true color and vibrant and just really put the mood for the place and the time I’ve also specialized in making videos so I’m really good at editing, wedding videos and videos for businesses whether it be like goofy and funny or tearful and cinematic. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come when I first started a year and a half ago I was editing on face tune and now I only touch Photoshop and Lightroom and then for videos. I touched da Vinci for my editing and it’s really brought me so far and it’s taught me so much and I’m so proud of how far I’ve came From a year and a half ago to where I am today. Incorporating drone work and mics into the videos and just really growing it just but myself from experience and not being scared to take the jump or not being scared to try new things even if it’s at a wedding like has just been such a game changer. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m very attention to detail and I’m always trying to get something better each time I do something so each job I get each wedding I get I try to make it better than the last or try to do something different to make that one stand out more However that specific one could stand out. I try to just upload a level every single time do something unique every single time I strive to get the best shots and the best storytelling I possibly can from each shot, and that comes from just being passionate and loving my job and being artistic It’s something I want to do. It’s something that makes me excited to do and that’s what it says apart or some people do it cause it’s their job or they’re just it’s whatever to them but to me like I want it makes me excited to get that special shot or the special special video or the special Moment or something different for my client. I care I’m passionate and I take it seriously all while still having fun. I want people to trust me. I want them to know that they made the right decision in hiring me. I want them to feel that I care and that’s what really sets me apart from everybody else.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t know if luck has really brought anything for me besides maybe I’m lucky that a couple people chose me over somebody else but I can also see that everything I’ve done all the effort I’ve put into my past stuff has led me down this path where people choose me for a reason or people recommend me and I end up landing in other people’s hands because of past things so I think a lot of it has to do with the grit and passion that I have behind what I do more so than luck
