My career began in interior design, but my love for creating beautiful environments started long before I ever made it official. I’ve always been drawn to the way a space can shift someone’s mood, spark emotion, or make a moment feel unforgettable. That passion eventually led me to launch Ashley Urban Designs, where I learned how to use creativity with intention and heart.
But even while designing homes and commercial spaces, I found myself constantly pulled toward something more intimate. I was always the one planning birthday parties, baby showers, romantic surprises, and family celebrations. One Valentine’s Day, I set up a dreamy backyard picnic for my fiancé — a teepee tent, candles, rose petals, the whole thing. I posted it online… and people went wild. My inbox filled with messages asking if I charged for setups like that.
That moment planted the seed for Enchanting Escapes.
I spent the next year slowly building an inventory, shaping packages, and defining the type of experience I wanted to give people. What I learned is that these picnics aren’t just décor. They’re connection. They’re emotion. They’re memory-making. And creating those moments brings me a joy that’s honestly hard to put into words.
Enchanting Escapes became my way of designing beauty that people can step into — not just admire from afar. A surprise anniversary, a luxury girls’ brunch, a kids’ birthday, or a quiet two-person celebration… every setup is its own little world, built to make someone feel something real.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The beauty of Enchanting Escapes is what people see, but the real challenges happen behind the scenes. Luxury picnics require a level of organization, precision, and time management that most people never have to think about. Every item in my inventory—linens, rugs, florals, pillows, lanterns, décor, and tables has to be maintained, cleaned, stored properly, and matched with the right color palette for each event. Keeping everything coordinated while tracking aging décor and rotating pieces to keep the brand fresh is a constant responsibility.
My biggest challenge has always been the pressure I put on myself. I’m a perfectionist by nature, and creating beauty comes naturally to me, so I hold myself to a very high standard. I always want every setup to feel magical and memorable for my clients. With that comes the fear of disappointing someone if something unexpected happens—weather, timing, transportation, or last-minute changes. Because I care so deeply, I tend to go above and beyond, which is both one of my strengths and one of my challenges.
Even so, every obstacle has taught me how to create better systems, stay organized, and manage my time more effectively. These behind-the-scenes challenges have shaped the way I run my business and have strengthened the level of quality I bring to every event.
