Today we’d like to introduce you to Mylee Flores.
Hi Mylee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for the beauty industry since I was a little girl. I would ask my mom for the Barbie head for my birthday and always bug her to paint her nails and do her makeup. Right after I graduated high school I went straight into cosmetology school and worked in a salon for the first 3 years of my career it wasn’t until November of 2023 that I decided to take the next step and open my own suite. I am now an independent stylist and am falling more and more in love with my career!!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always a smooth road. My father didn’t support my decision at first especially me being first gen and the eldest I understand he wanted me to be able to do all he couldn’t. Obviously I’m stubborn when I want something I get it and I didn’t let that stop me. The first couple of years were a bit discouraging I worked in a commission salon. I was told the clients were never mine but the salons and if I leave I was not allowed to reach out to them. It made me feel small and that my work wasn’t good enough. I went and worked at another commission salon right after and only lasted 9 months before I opened up my suite. I had only $200 to my name and with the faith in god I was able to start my dream and see it prosper!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in low maintenance color and extension transformation! I understand that coming in every 6-8weeks if no longer feasible. I have taken many classes and going to a few conventions and have learned and am stilling learning how to better my technique. I also provide a place where there is no judgement. I will sit and take however long I need to take to consultant to make sure I am understanding exactly what they aren’t wanting before beginning. I am proud of how I now have created a community and family with my clients where we all talk to one another like best friends and we always can’t wait to see one another!!
What matters most to you?
Jesus is what matters the most to me then my husband! Without Christ I wouldn’t be the women I am today or would I have this amazing career and wonderful clientele. And my husband has been my number one supporter from the beginning. He has spend countless nights helping me set up suites when I move and been my guinea pig from time to time. Without his support I fear I might have given up along the way
