Exploring Life & Business with Steven Sotello of City To City Junk Removal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Sotello.

Steven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
City To City Junk Removal & Trash Disposal Service was born out of pure necessity. I had just bought my first home — something I was proud of — and then my steady W-2 income slowly slipped away. What I depended on to pay my mortgage was gone, and I found myself in a spot where I had to figure things out fast. It wasn’t a “maybe one day” decision… it was survival.

I picked up whatever side work I could, using the one thing I still had — my hustle. Junk removal started as a way to keep the lights on and make sure that mortgage got paid. But something unexpected happened: people kept calling back. Word spread. Folks appreciated someone who showed up on time, worked hard, and treated their home or property with respect.

What started out of desperation turned into a real business I could stand behind. Over time, I learned the industry, invested in better equipment, built relationships with communities and property managers, and watched City To City become something bigger than I imagined. It wasn’t overnight; it was built one pickup, one customer, one recommendation at a time.

Today, City To City supports my family and gives me the chance to show my kids what it looks like to build something from nothing. I’m proud of that.

Our mission is simple:
To bring honest, dependable, community-focused service to every doorstep in the DFW area. We show up when we say we will, we treat every job with respect, and we make the process quick, easy, and stress-free for our customers. Whether it’s a single item or a full property clean-out, we want people to feel understood, taken care of, and confident they chose the right team.

From desperation to purpose — that’s the foundation of my business, and it’s what drives me every day to keep growing, keep improving, and keep serving the communities that gave us a chance.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth. Starting a business out of financial pressure comes with its own set of challenges, but building it into something sustainable was even harder. In the beginning, I didn’t have a blueprint, a mentor, or extra money to fall back on. It was just me trying to figure out how to market, price jobs, pay landfill fees, and still make enough to keep my home and support my family.

There were weeks where work was slow and I had to stretch every dollar. I learned the hard way that being your own boss means wearing every hat — customer service, scheduling, marketing, sales, accounting, and the physical labor on top of it. Balancing all of that while trying to grow was overwhelming at times.

Another challenge was building trust in a competitive industry. There are a lot of junk removal companies out there, and standing out as the “dependable one” took time. I earned it by showing up, keeping my word, and treating every job — big or small — with the same respect.

Looking back, the obstacles shaped the way I run my business today. They forced me to adapt, stay consistent, and stay humble. I had to grow as a business owner and as a person, and every challenge is part of the reason City To City is where it is now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about City To City Junk Removal ?

We handle everything from single-item pickups to full home cleanouts, curbside trash removal, property cleanups, appliance removal, garage cleanouts, dumpster-bag pickups, hot tub removals, shed demos, and working with property managers across multiple communities.

What makes us different is simple: reliability and respect. In an industry where a lot of companies overpromise, we show up when we say we will — even if it’s late in the evening, raining, or last-minute. We built our reputation on being fast, dependable, and honest. People know when they call City To City, the job’s getting done professionally and without stress.

We also specialize in serving neighborhoods, apartment communities, HOAs, and property managers who need consistent, clean, reliable service. Our repeat clients are the backbone of our business, and we’re known for being the company you can trust with your property, your tenants, and your timeline.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that everything grew organically. No big budget, no fancy crew — just hard work, consistent service, and treating every customer like family. That’s how we’ve built a name across Fort Worth, Haslet, Saginaw, Keller, Lake Worth, and all the surrounding communities.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’d just like readers to know how grateful I am for every person who has supported City To City Junk Removal along the way — whether you booked a job, recommended us to a neighbor, or even just shared our name. This business was built one pickup at a time, and every customer played a part in helping us grow.

I also want people to know that we’re more than just a haul-off service. We’re a community-focused company. We show up for families, property managers, homeowners, and anyone who needs help getting their space back. Our goal is to make life a little easier for the people we serve.

If anyone reading this is thinking about starting something of their own, my message is simple: start where you are and don’t quit when it gets hard. I’m living proof that you can build something real from nothing if you stay consistent and keep pushing.
