Hi LeRamsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started doing music when I was a kid, growing up in a single-mother household. From singing to songwriting and recording, I’ve also released music on SoundCloud. I took a break from college to really focus on my life. I still experimented and was writing my music still, but a lot of dark, traumatic things happened during my college life, so I decided to drop out and start living life on my own. Traumatic things kept happening to me, and I fell into a really dark place. I felt most at peace when I’d pray and write about my experiences, hoping others felt the same. One night, I unexpectedly ran into a producer I had met in high school, and it fueled me to get back into making music on my own. I went to local open mics to test out my music before releasing it, to see how the crowd would react, and almost every time I would perform one of my songs, the crowd loved it. They love the energy and genuine support that I show. I released my first single on all streaming platforms last summer called “AYE”, and ever since then, I’ve been steadily releasing music. I’m currently working on an EP set to be released in a couple of weeks.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been pretty difficult. From trying to find producers, musicians, and artists to work with, to writer’s block, to finding my own sound, being an independent artist isn’t easy. There are so many bits and pieces that go into being a creative, and sometimes lots of money. If you’re passionate about it and find peace and a desire when creating music, then you’ll find ways to continue doing what you love without a lot of money.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a bold genre-blending artist based in Dallas, Texas, known for fusing soulful melodies, raw emotion, and thought-provoking lyricism and storytelling. My work showcases the voice of a prodigy unafraid to explore the complexities of being a young Black man in America. Through my music, I dive into themes of faith, sin, freedom, and redemption—offering a spiritual and emotional mirror and connection to listeners navigating similar struggles with identity, temptation, and truth.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is the domination of your own reality. It’s when your dreams stop asking for permission and start taking territory. Success is the courage to bet on yourself when the whole world is playing it safe. It’s breaking the ceiling they swore you’d never touch—and then redesigning the sky. Success is when you become the blueprint, the culture shift, the standard everybody else starts copying. Success is also a war with your weaker self. It’s waking up before doubt wakes up. It’s putting in the work long after talent gets tired. Success is sacrifice—the pain you choose so you never feel the pain of regret. It’s an obsession, a promise you make to yourself that you refuse to break. Success is standing at the end of the journey knowing you bled for it, suffered for it, and earned every inch. That’s the mentality: no excuses, no shortcuts, no surrender.
