Community Highlights: Meet Cindy Newton of Chica Power Fitness and Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Newton.

Hi Cindy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey actually started long before fitness. I spent 21 years as a social worker, and that experience showed me just how connected mental health is to overall wellness. I saw every day how much women juggle, how heavy life can feel, and how important community and support really are.

That understanding is what eventually led me into the fitness world. I wanted to create a space where women could move their bodies, care for their minds, and feel truly supported. That’s how Chica Power Fitness was born—out of a desire to build a community that empowers women from the inside out.

It hasn’t always been easy—small business life comes with challenges—but my social work background shaped everything. I lead with compassion, accountability, and connection. And along the way, I’ve grown too—through completing 75 Hard, running races, and continually learning what wellness really looks like.

Today, Chica Power Fitness is more than workouts. It’s a place where women find confidence, joy, and each other. And honestly, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road—but every challenge has shaped who I am and what Chica Power Fitness has become.

Coming from 21 years in social work, I knew how important mental health and community were, but stepping into the fitness and business world brought a whole new set of hurdles. As a small, women-owned business, we’ve faced the usual struggles: limited funding, high rent and utilities, fluctuating client motivation, and trying to build awareness without a big marketing budget.

There were moments where I questioned if I could keep going—times when attendance dipped, when expenses were high, or when life just felt heavy. And balancing my own wellness while caring for everyone else was its own challenge.

But every struggle pushed me to get more creative. We leaned heavily into community-building, partnerships, word-of-mouth, and simply showing up with heart. And honestly, those tough moments are what made Chica Power what it is today—a place built on resilience, support, and real connection.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth. But it’s been worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Chica Power Fitness and Nutrition ?
Chica Power Fitness is all about empowering women through movement, mindset, and community. We’re a women-owned fitness and nutrition space that focuses on helping women feel strong—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

What we do is pretty simple: We offer a variety of classes like strength training, dance cardio, and specialty programs, plus nutrition coaching, transformation challenges, and wellness events. But what we’re known for is the energy, the support, and the genuine sense of belonging our community creates.

Our classes feel like a party, but the purpose runs deep. With my 21-year background in social work, I approach wellness from a whole-person perspective. We prioritize mental health, accountability, connection, and celebrating every win—big or small. Our members aren’t just clients; they’re part of a family that cheers each other on and shows up consistently.

What sets us apart?
– We lead with heart and authenticity.
– We meet women where they are, without judgment.
– We’ve built a space where women feel safe, welcomed, and supported.
– We don’t just work out—we build confidence, friendships, and habits that truly last.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the community that has formed naturally around our mission. The Chica Power name isn’t just a brand—it’s a movement. It’s about showing women that they are capable, powerful, and worthy of investing in themselves.

What I want readers to know is this: at Chica Power Fitness, you don’t have to be “fit” to start. You just have to show up. We’ll meet you exactly where you are, help you grow, and celebrate you every step of the way.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Chica Power Fitness wouldn’t be what it is today without the people who believed in me and stood beside me.

First, my family has been my biggest support system. My son and my husband have encouraged me through every high and low, stepped in when I needed help, and believed in my vision even when I doubted myself. My parents have been huge supporters, from lending a helping hand when needed, and sometimes even gifting us some things to make us successful.

I also have to give credit to my Chica community—the members themselves. They are the heartbeat of this business. Their consistency, their encouragement, and the way they show up for each other has built a culture stronger than anything I could have created alone. They spread the word, celebrate the wins, and create the energy that makes our space special. We don’t call them members, we call them partners, because that is exactly what they are. Our partners have invested time, generosity, and loyalty. We couldn’t exist without them.

I’m incredibly grateful for the instructors who have poured their time and passion into our classes, events, and programs. Their dedication keeps everything running smoothly and helps us reach more women and families.

And of course, I can’t forget the friends, mentors, and fellow women-owned business owners who have offered advice, shared resources, and reminded me that I’m not doing this alone. The wellness and small business community can be tough, but it’s full of people who truly want to see each other win.

So the credit doesn’t belong to me alone—it belongs to every person who has shown up, believed in the mission, and helped grow Chica Power Fitness into the supportive, empowering community it is today.
