Today we’d like to introduce you to Skye Day.
Hi Skye, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first got interested in cameras after starting my podcast. I’ve always loved hearing other people’s stories, so I set out to capture that same honesty on film, not just audio. That led to filming a friend’s wedding, then another, then small projects for local businesses, and I spent a lot of my nights teaching myself how to make each video feel bigger than its budget. Over time that grew into Toasty Creations and Video by Skye, where I focus on cinematic wedding films and story-driven brand videos for DFW businesses. Today my goal is simple: take real moments and real people, and turn them into films that feel personal for my clients and powerful for their audiences.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone running a business that has consistent revenue has a smooth going at it. When I started, I had quit my decade long career as a BMW Technician. I didn’t have money. I was renting from a friend that was helping me out and trying to build a business. I didn’t actually plan on it only being video – I tried a bunch of stuff; even carpet cleaning. I think video kept turning up as the thing I really cared about. I would spend so much of my time editing each project to make sure it was perfect.
One of the biggest struggles since deciding to pursue my video business was about a year after I had quit my BMW Dealer job. I had no money, my friend was asking for rent and I had to sell my car to get rid of the payment and be able to make it another month. I was supposed to move out in a month, but I was not in any position financially to do so. I had to decide in that moment whether to keep going and figure out a way to make it, or I would go back to my previous job that gave me a stable income. That was a defining decision for me moving forward. There is always a way out, but you might have to change and adapt yourself in a way that you aren’t really ready for.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is all about taking real people and real moments and turning them into films that actually feel like them. I specialize in cinematic wedding films and story-driven videos for small businesses (especially around DFW) that help with both emotion and clear marketing goals.
Clients usually come to me because they want something more personal than a big agency. Someone who will listen, plan with them, and then quietly make them look and sound their best on camera.
Brand wise, I’m proud that my work feels warm, honest, and watchable years later, not just trendy for a season. I want readers to know I’m here to help them tell their story in a way that feels real and also helps their business grow.
