Inspiring Conversations with Shaun of Crave the fun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun.

Hi Shaun, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story: how it all started
My name is Shaun Hanna, and I founded Crave the Fun. What began as a simple family outing to a local Italian ice store and watching my son’s face light up with delight, sparked an idea deep in me: what if I could recreate that magic for others?

Prior to Crave, I worked as an Executive Chef , cooking in fine dining restaurants, retirement communities, and country clubs. I’ve always believed that food does more than nourish the body; it brings people together.

Then came the COVID pause. It was a time many of us re-evaluated what truly mattered. For me, it was those simple, joyful moments with my wife and son. That’s when I realized: life is short, and those small moments — the smiles, the laughter — matter so much. From that realization, Crave Dessert Truck was born. Now fast forward almost 4 years and we have grown to Crave the fun!

What Crave the Fun is all about?

Crave is about creating joy-filled, unforgettable moments. We didn’t just become a dessert truck. From our signature shaved ice and novelty ice-cream bars to customizable treat stations — we expanded into full-on party experiences.

Here’s what we do:
Crave Dessert Truck: Serving shaved ice, frosty treats, novelty ice-cream bars, and customizable treat stations.

Crave Foam Parties: Safe, epic foam play for kids, teens, or the “inner child.” Perfect for backyards, birthdays, pool parties, or any fun gathering.

Crave Bubble Parties: Bubble-mania machines and bubble play. Mesmerizing and playful. With different bubble stations, for an endless combo of fun.

Crave Snow Parties : A winter-wonderland experience — snow anytime, even in summer. Magical and unexpected.

Whether it’s a backyard birthday, a school function, a corporate gathering, or a neighborhood block party . Crave brings flavor, fun, and celebration to every event.

Our motto has always been: “Crave the Fun. Crave the Memories. Crave it All.”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle as a new entrepreneur was learning the food-truck industry. As an executive chef, I already had the food knowledge, but I had to overcome the challenges of going from a large kitchen to working in a space ten times smaller. On top of that came permits, local inspections, and the day-to-day maintenance of the truck itself. Along with the time and financial investment required, I had to grow a company that had no footprint in the industry—starting completely from scratch and building a client base one customer at a time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Crave the fun?
For me, it’s never been just about selling shaved ice or throwing parties. It’s about building community, creating joy, and giving people moments worth remembering. That’s what I loved about working as a chef. Food brought people together; laughter and parties deepen that connection.
I’ve seen Crave transform from a dessert-only truck into an event experience company. One that aims to bring smiles to kids, families, friends, coworkers, and neighbors alike. That transformation reminds me every day why I started this: to share with others what I value most. Togetherness, joy, and connection.
At its core, Crave is my way of giving people a chance to pause life for a moment, savor sweetness, and make memories that last.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone starting out is to do your homework. I always dreamed of owning my own business, so I invested a lot of time in research, studying my competitors, identifying what they did well, and figuring out where I could improve within the industry. Texas is saturated with food trucks, and you have to stand out. If you don’t, you’ll disappear into the background. Customer service is everything, and your reputation matters just as much.
