Community Highlights: Meet Ashley Kuehne of Embodied Experiences

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Kuehne.

Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Dallas and attended Episcopal School of Dallas before heading to Boston College for a Bachelor of Arts in English and Women’s studies. After graduating, I returned home and began building a career in advertising. It didn’t take long for me to realize that while I enjoyed the creativity of the field, I was craving work that felt more purposeful—something that aligned with who I was at my core.

That realization led me back to school to earn my master’s in counseling, and it truly changed the trajectory of my life. I’ve now been in private practice for 20 years and in the field for 25, with a focus on trauma and addiction. It’s been incredibly meaningful to sit with people through some of their hardest moments and witness their resilience and transformation.

A few years ago, I started a new business with another therapist, Ashley Rogers, LPC-S, SEP, called Embodied Experiences. We host therapeutic retreats, and it’s become one of the most joyful extensions of my work—bringing together healing, community, nature, and embodiment in a way that feels both deeply purposeful and surprisingly fun.

Overall, my path has been shaped by following what feels authentic, and I’m grateful every day that I get to do work that feels aligned with my heart and my values.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely hasn’t always been smooth, but I’ve learned something important from every bump along the way. My early years in community mental health were some of the most formative—and some of the hardest. I was underpaid, overworked, and carrying an overwhelming caseload with very few boundaries. It was meaningful work, but it left me depleted, and I often wondered how long I could sustain that pace.

For five years, I held onto the dream of building a private practice, even when it felt out of reach. Ultimately, becoming a mother shifted everything for me. When my daughter was two years old, I finally found the courage to take the leap. I wanted a healthier work–life balance, and I genuinely believed I could be a better therapist—and a better mother—if I took care of myself in a more sustainable way.

That transition wasn’t easy, but it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Each challenge along the way has shaped me into the clinician I am today and taught me to trust my intuition, even when the path feels uncertain.

We’ve been impressed with Embodied Experiences, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Embodied Experiences, we create tailor-made retreats that blend creativity, embodied practices, and holistic healing to support the mind, body, and spirit. Our retreats are intentionally crafted to guide individuals on transformative journeys—through mindful activities, expressive therapies, and restorative wellness practices. Whether someone is seeking personal growth, deep rejuvenation, or a more grounded connection to themselves, we design experiences that help them unwind, reflect, and emerge renewed.

Beyond personal retreats, we collaborate with businesses, nonprofits, and professional teams to curate customized group experiences that foster connection, creativity, and well-being. Organizations come to us when they want to build resilience, strengthen team cohesion, or simply offer their people a restorative, meaningful escape. Every retreat is designed collaboratively and thoughtfully, ensuring that each detail aligns with the group’s values, goals, and culture.

Embodied Experiences was founded in 2024 by two long-time colleagues and friends, Ashley Rogers, LPC-S, SEP, and Ashley Kuehne, LPC-S, LCDC. What began as a retreat for therapists quickly became a shared passion to create deeply personalized, healing experiences for everyone. Rooted in an embodied philosophy of transformation, our retreats weave together creative and expressive arts, psychodrama, yoga, bodywork modalities, and holistic wellness practices.

What truly sets us apart is the depth and breadth of expertise we bring. With a combined 50 years of experience holding space, we offer a level of safety, professionalism, and presence that is rare. Our backgrounds include Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, brainspotting, hypnosis, expressive arts, yoga, and more. We’re known for our ability to create environments where people feel deeply supported, genuinely seen, and empowered to explore their inner landscapes.

We’re most proud of the heart and intentionality behind our brand. Every retreat is infused with creativity, care, and a genuine desire to uplift others. From dreaming up new ideas to crafting thematic experiences, this work inspires us in a way few things can.

Ultimately, Embodied Experiences is about transformation, creativity, and meaningful human connection. We want readers to know that our retreats aren’t just getaways—they’re intentional, soulful experiences designed to meet you exactly where you are and help you reconnect with the fullest, truest version of yourself.

How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely shown up in little ways throughout my life and business—especially with our retreats. We’ve had moments where the weather was absolutely perfect, which feels like a gift, especially in Texas where conditions can be unpredictable and sometimes downright brutal. But what I’ve learned is that even when luck doesn’t show up the way we hoped, we still find the magic in the moment. If it rained, we’d be the ones dancing in it. If it was swealtering, we’d turn it into an opportunity for an invigorating cold plunge.

More than relying on luck, I think what sets us apart is our ability to pivot and stay flexible. We’re not attached to a specific outcome. Instead, we trust the process, lean into what’s unfolding, and create beauty out of whatever we’re given. That mindset—embracing the unexpected rather than resisting it—has served us far more than luck ever could.
