Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately, we have worked in the industry together for a long time and were able to learn from our experiences to build a business with a consistent team and vision. However, as any business would experience, there are challenges associated with transitioning to a larger team. A larger team requires extensive training, embracing leadership roles and development, leaning into the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and streamlining our customer base. As the consumer technology world developed vast DIY products over the last decade, we recognized lower margin products don’t make it easy to maintain certain levels of profitability against DIY solutions. But, we have found a balance between affordability and the ongoing need for quality installation and ongoing service for home technology.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MediaHead?
From the days of dial-up 56K Internet service and being tethered to your TV with a corded remote, MediaHead Co-Founders, Jeff Bassman and Steve Harman, ignited passions and visions for the future of home technology and home automation.
When these “total home control” techies met in 2010 working in home automation, it was a natural fit to combine their talents, industry knowledge, passions and expertise to create MediaHead. To know and love the MediaHead experience is to feel the TechHead passion backed by the ethos they have built around industry best practices and client happiness.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
We have found that the best networking and mentorship experiences come from real conversations. Meeting people at industry events is always helpful, especially when we can compare notes about what’s working, what’s not, and how others handle the same challenges we face. Those honest exchanges build deeper relationships than surface-level small talk and develop into industry-best practices.
And, some of our best business advice while starting our business came from our parents and grandparents. They’ve run successful businesses and their perspective is timeless, especially around leadership, resilience, honest business practices, and customer relationships.
