Community Highlights: Meet Janay Shandy of 1:29 Fresh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janay Shandy.

Hi Janay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
With me being a Physical Therapist Assistant and my husband having played basketball in college—and both of us being passionate about healthy living—we were inspired to bring healthier options to Dallas six years ago. Our juice bar officially opened on January 19th, 2024, and it has been an amazing ride ever since. I truly believe that where we are today is because we put God first in everything we do. He has provided so many opportunities that we didn’t even have to go searching for. We are also deeply committed to our community and love supporting other businesses.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but God has consistently sent the right people to speak life into us and remind us to trust the process. Our biggest challenges in the beginning were finding loyal employees and operating without a marketing team. My husband and I had to put in a lot of work ourselves, but through it all, God blessed us with the right people to help our business grow.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
1:29 Fresh comes from Genesis 1:29, which speaks about God providing the fruits, vegetables, and seeds on the earth. Our purpose is not only to serve healthy options—such as smoothies, fresh-pressed juices, wellness shots, sea moss, and wholesome snacks—but to give you an experience. We are known for serving everything fresh and with love.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that we are the only Black-owned juice bar in a historic area—something I give all glory to God for. What sets us apart is that we boldly operate as a kingdom-minded business.

What I want readers to know is this: you won’t regret trying 1:29 Fresh. Once you experience our products, you’re hooked.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The three main qualities that have contributed to my success in business are being kingdom-minded, hardworking, and confident. Without these qualities, I honestly don’t know where I would be in my business today.
