Shumaila Kidwai’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Shumaila Kidwai shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Shumaila, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my life are the basics and I feel like anybody can relate to that. I start off my day with my morning skin & oral care routine and then I get ready to grab coffee from a local coffee shop- no specifics! It all depends on what’s accessible at the moment. Then I sit in my car for about 15 minutes (right outside of the coffee shop) to finish up my coffee order of the day and doomscrolling on all social media platforms but lately I’ve been into TikTok a lot and then I drive back home to start my day off for my wfh freelance opportunities and to strategize for my own personal branding.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Absolutely! So I am a content creator, photographer and somebody who’s looking to start their own social media agency. I’m really torn between making it a PR agency or just focus on social media. Obviously I’m working at another company but also trying to get all of this going. I try not take in all at once so it’s been a slow process.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Something from my own experience that I know will surely break a bond is when you lose respect and trust for somebody. Often times, we get so riled up in our own world and forget how our actions and reactions affect others. This applies to almost everything! To restore it just like anything in life you have to work on yourself and the other person or people need to be willing to work with you to make yourself a better version of yourself. There’s a reason why the saying ” Team work makes the dream work” exists.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I actually give up almost every other month to be honest because I don’t think doing everything is possible. You can only do so much with the time you have. You can either nourish your goals or nourish the people around you and if you’re lucky you can do both together but that’s obviously if you get lucky that way or have a way to things. I believe me traveling around and just not being in a lot of ways has made me give up and created a cycle of laziness which I have been pushing myself to get out of. It’s tough but hey, I believe I will get out of it and I will. It also doesn’t help when you catch up on everybody and realize “oh damn I’m still a late bloomer. So much to conquer and so much demotivation but giving up is never an option really. Almost? absolutely but fully? NEVER.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is actually really reserved and articulate but when I’m around people that I’m close to- I’m a menace perhaps. In fact, it’s so funny I’m also the opposite around my own family members but when it comes to my friends and people who I adore in any way possible, there’s no stopping me. I crack jokes, I act silly and I do a lot of things that would completely oppose the persona I have in front of people that I have to put a front on for. However, there’s one thing that’s real about me in public and that is that when I say things or talk to people, I am honest about the words that come out of my mouth but when it comes to my disposition I keep that reserved for the people close to me so I have a niche circle of people that totally understand and accept my eccentric personality. I do that so I can focus my energy on things and people that value who I am as a person.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel at peace when I am around good company and also when I’m traveling. I like to be on an airplane. In fact a couple days ago, I told my friend I think I like the idea of just being on an airplane and running away from anything that bothers me rather than the destination itself. Funny thing to say I know but, life literally stops for a bit when you’re on an airplane. You forget about things and really cherish the moment. I aim to travel as much as possible so I experience life as much as I can and I have stories to tell people around me. I’m actually the biggest storyteller but, I keep it respectful though!
