Damon Harris’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Damon Harris shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Damon, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Yes. Taking a moment to slow down has often given me the clarity to pause, think, and respond with intention rather than impulse. By not reacting immediately, I’ve avoided decisions I might later regret and gained the space to choose what truly aligns with my goals. This approach has consistently helped me make stronger, more thoughtful choices—both in my personal life and in my business.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Here is an updated version with your certifications incorporated smoothly and professionally:

Hi, my name is Damon Harris. I’m a fitness trainer and a God-fearing man with a deep passion for helping people transform their lives. I created *Your Will Fitness* as a brand that honors faith, discipline, and the power of personal commitment. My mission is to inspire individuals to take control of their health—physically, mentally, and spiritually—by reminding them that true change begins with a willing heart.

What makes *Your Will Fitness* unique is its foundation: we don’t just focus on the body; we focus on the whole person. I designed the brand to be a source of motivation, accountability, and genuine support. Whether someone is just beginning their fitness journey or pushing toward new milestones, I want them to know they are not alone and that their ‘will’ can carry them further than they ever imagined.

I hold multiple fitness and wellness certifications, which allow me to train clients safely, effectively, and with a deeper understanding of movement, nutrition, and long-term habit-building. These credentials, combined with my personal experience and faith-centered approach, shape the comprehensive programs I offer.

I’m currently working on expanding my training services, including a new online coaching platform designed to help people stay consistent no matter where they are. I’m also developing faith-based wellness content that blends scripture, mindset, and movement—a combination I truly believe can change lives.

One thing I’d love readers to know about me is that my work is personal. I’ve experienced my own battles, setbacks, and breakthroughs, and those experiences fuel the compassion and drive behind everything I do. My goal isn’t just to train bodies; it’s to uplift people and help them tap into the strength God has already placed within them.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A defining moment in my life was meeting a local bodybuilder everyone called Muscle Man. I knew him growing up, and he took me under his wings at a time when I was headed down a path that could have easily led to trouble. Instead of judging me, he introduced me to fitness and taught me the discipline, structure, and self-respect that come with taking care of your body and mind. That guidance not only changed my daily habits—it shifted the way I viewed myself and the world. It showed me the power of mentorship and the impact one person can have when they choose to invest in someone else, which is a big part of why I value personal growth, resilience, and positive environments today.

Another moment that shaped me was facing a major challenge outside my comfort zone. During that time, I realized how valuable resilience, humility, and active listening truly are. It taught me that real growth often happens when life feels uncertain, and that people’s perspectives are shaped by experiences we may know nothing about. Since then, I’ve approached situations with more empathy, patience, and curiosity. Together, these experiences shifted my mindset from simply trying to solve problems to genuinely trying to understand people—something that continues to guide how I communicate, lead, and make decisions.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Yes, I do remember a time someone truly listened to me. Years ago, I coached football and mentored young men, offering them encouragement and words of wisdom at an age when guidance can make a real difference. I did it because I understood how important it is to have someone believe in you early on—someone who can help you stay focused, build confidence, and see your potential before you see it in yourself. Recently, one of those young men reached out to me. He told me he remembered who I was and how much he valued the talks and life lessons I shared with him. Hearing that reminded me that listening, mentoring, and investing in others can have a lasting impact, even long after the moment has passed.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
For me, the public version of myself is very much the real me — just a more intentional version. I show up with the same values, the same work ethic, and the same respect for others. The only difference is that in public settings, I’m more mindful about how I communicate and present myself. At my core, though, what you see is who I am. I believe in being consistent and authentic, whether I’m in front of a crowd, mentoring someone, or just talking one-on-one.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I can give everything my best, even without praise. I’ve learned that real impact doesn’t come from recognition — it comes from doing the right thing, consistently, even when no one is watching. My motivation comes from knowing that my actions can shape someone’s life, even in small ways. I’ve seen this firsthand through mentoring and coaching young men, where the reward wasn’t applause but watching them grow into better versions of themselves. Praise is temporary, but purpose is lasting. So yes, I’m committed to giving my best because of the difference I want to make in the world, not because of who may or may not acknowledge it.
