Khafre Linwood of Dallas on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Khafre Linwood. Check out our conversation below.

Khafre, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
The most surprising thing is, people actually rock with me as a self taught artist! I don’t even consider myself that good, but the people think, and see otherwise, and for that I’m grateful!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello Readers,
Once again, My name is Khafre! Self taught illustrator, painter, clothing artist, and all around artistic creator!
Black, and white art is my thing! It’s a comfort zone for me! In a world of chaos, confusion, turmoil, hatred, and violence, color can confuse, or be a distraction. Black, and white is quiet. It’s the calm after a hard days work. The silencing of all the noise, and absolutely simple to the eye! I started painting for almost 10 years now, and I’m still learning, still taking risks, still coming up with ways to set myself apart from other known painters!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My Grandmother.
My Madear, the late Vassie Lee Jackson!
Being raised by someone who never folded under pressure, never cried over spilled milk, and took life head on! My grandmother was of strong faith, and it was the driving force behind everything she did! She had a No Days Off mentality, and seeing that in a woman, made me understand that when I grew up to become a man, there would be no excuses!

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes! During the pandemic. Shelter in place really handicapped a lot of us! We couldn’t move like we wanted to. Vices that we used for recreation, escape, and relaxation were halted, and that slowed life down! Catching COVID made me helpless, and it showed me who was there for me in that time of need! I was so hopeless, and alone I became suicidal! I just didn’t see, or have purpose anymore.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I’m an open book! Whatever you see me doing on social media, is normally what I’m really doing at the moment! I think selling a representative, is the most conniving spirit one could possess. Keeping up appearances, and filtering your life for validation is lack of self love! I am who I say I am, and everything you see about me is exactly what that is!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
That I painted this picture, no pun intended! I painted this picture that my life was all together! That I didn’t go through anything. That I was always in a good headspace, when I tried my best to show you the good, the bad, and the ugly side of Khafre! I try to encourage people through my pain, hardships, triumphs, and tragedies to overcome just like I did! It wasn’t easy, and it still isn’t!
