We’re looking forward to introducing you to Zerik Brown. Check out our conversation below.
Zerik , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My first 90 minutes of the day are very intentional and structured. I wake up at 6 AM every morning and the first thing I do is thank God for a new day. I’m usually up before my wife and son, so I take a moment to freshen up and then get straight to the charts to begin my trading day. I like to be early and focused, so I dedicate about an hour to studying the markets and preparing for the day’s moves. After that, I shift into family mode helping my wife get our son up and ready so we can all start our day together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Zerik Brown. I’m based in Dallas, Texas, originally from Killeen. I’m a barber, a father, a son, and a day trader. I’m blessed with a beautiful wife and a handsome son, and my family is truly my “why.” Everything I do is for them, and I carry my mother, the late Brenda Brown, with me in everything I accomplish.
I’m the owner of BladeKingz III, a barbershop located in Cedar Hill. I consider myself a trailblazer—someone who leads with purpose and always puts God first. I’ve only been barbering a little over five years, and the fact that I now own a shop is something I’m extremely proud of. My story is simple: when you stay consistent, disciplined, and faithful, you can achieve things you never thought possible.
Right now, I’m focused on two major areas of growth: continuing to elevate my skills as a trader so I can become consistently profitable, and building BladeKingz III into the number-one barbershop in Cedar Hill, Texas. I’m committed to creating a space that sets a standard—not just in quality cuts, but in culture, professionalism, and community.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped the way I see the world was the passing of my mother. When she died, it felt like the world lost its color. There’s nothing that compares to a mother’s love, and losing her changed me as a man. It forced me to grow, to shift my priorities, and to let go of things—and even people—that no longer aligned with who I was becoming.
That was the moment I put my full trust in God and really tapped into my purpose. It pushed me into barbering, and once I stepped into that calling, I never looked back. My mother is the reason behind my drive, my discipline, and my commitment to becoming better. Everything I do today is for my family and in honor of her.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
A time someone truly listened to me would honestly be every day, and that person is my wife. She’s a big communicator, and communication is one of the strongest parts of our marriage. I love that about us. Whenever I need to talk, vent, ask questions, or just be heard, she’s always there—fully present and engaged. I’m blessed to have a partner who truly listens to me and understands me. It makes a huge difference in the man I am today.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is absolutely the real me. What you see is what you get. I’m honest, straightforward, and grounded. Some people might say I’m a bit quiet, but that’s just because I observe more than I speak. Whether I’m in public or behind closed doors, I show up as the same person.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m absolutely doing what I was born to do. I never believed that my purpose was to clock in for someone else forever, so I created my own lanes—lanes that allow me to build real financial freedom. God blessed me with the gift of barbering, and I see it as more than just a skill. It’s a way to serve people, to impact them, and to teach others coming up behind me. I’m walking in my purpose, not in anyone else’s expectations.
