We’re looking forward to introducing you to Javier Mejia. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Javier , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
First 90 minutes of my day consist of me walking my dog for 1 hour every morning and then feeding him and getting ready for work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Javier Mejia, a professional photographer based in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex with over 15 years of experience behind the lens. Photography has allowed me to explore and capture Dallas–Fort Worth and other cities across the U.S. in ways that reveal perspectives many haven’t seen before.
My expertise spans a range of specialties including portraits, events, commercial, residential, and product/merchandising photography. I’ve had the privilege of working with both small local businesses and major brands, delivering images that bring their stories to life.
Throughout my career, I’ve collaborated with an array of respected names and brands such as American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Nusr-Et Dallas, Karol G, Lil Wayne, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, Mexican OT, Latto, Benson Boone, Lecrae, Andy Mineo, GAWVI, Trip Lee, Tedashi, Marco Barrientos, and Marcos Witt, among others. My event photography has taken me coast to coast — from Madison Square Garden in NYC to the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, as well as numerous iconic venues throughout the Dallas area.
Driven by adventure and a love for travel, I’m always seeking new places and moments to capture. It would be an honor to help preserve your most meaningful memories through my lens.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a scared kid afraid of public speaking, moving to a country I did not know the language of, starting from zero with no friends. That’s who I was before the world told me who I had to be.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I feel as a creative person there are many moments where we feel like giving up, creative blocks are the biggest obstacle we face. Once we learn how to past those things it all becomes clear. Do it for the love of the art and not what will come from it. Love what you do and the rest will follow.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Honesty. Honesty is the most important thing for me.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying about the tomorrow and the what ifs, and I would start living the present and the oh wells. Is best to say oh well, than “what if”
