Carolyn (Doll) Reeves of Addison on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Carolyn (Doll) Reeves. Check out our conversation below.

Carolyn (Doll), so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would absolutely hire me. I am goal driven and hard working. I do what needs to be done regardless of feelings. I have the mind set to achieve anything and I go get it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Carolyn (Doll) Reeves and I am a self taught tattoo artist of 12 years and I am a mommy of 6. I am born and raised from Gary, IN and I will be 31 in December. My brand is The Rose That Grew From The Concrete and Dolls House Of Ink LLC. What makes us unique is while we also do our own personal tattoos and designs for those who have the money to do so, I created a environment where those who don’t have it like that but needs the ink therapy can come and get tatted for as slow as $30 from out flashes I created. No matter how little, everyone should be able to enjoy the luxury of having a tattoo. I am always for the clients. Doing what is best for them. Including their inputs into to everyday life in the shop from deals, to flash sheets and more.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think what breaks the bonds between people is efforts, open honesty and actions. I do my best to never expect the me in people but when you don’t ever try, always receiving and never giving. always the one needing someone to show up for you but never the one showing up is a big deal. You can’t always be on the receiving end of anything. What are you willing to give and put out into the world and relationships. What can restore them is being genuine, trustworthy, caring and not self centered like the world revolves only around you.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
I don’t believe anyone ever truly listened me and took in account what I have said, I give out so much advice and wisdom that I can especially when asked and it’s never applied. I always have done what I could to help elevate those around me. Whether it is applied is not up to me. I always want to see everyone around me grow and thrive but I can’t force anybody around me to do what they don’t want to do. I can only wish them the best and hope they get what they long for. It’s funny when things happen exactly how I said it would and then I’m told I should’ve listened to you. I wish more valued my words that I give because it’s never coming from an ill will place ever.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
No the real version of me does not laugh a lot, Is fighting for a lot. Have a lot of grey rainy days and is hurting tremendously. Very lonely and heartbroken but to the public eye I look like I’m thriving when the most important things to me are hurting me right now.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That no matter what I did what I could for everyone and that I had a heart of gold. I would help anyone that wanted my help in any form that I could. I showed up and I celebrated. I was genuinely proud of those who succeeded and always wanted the best for everyone even if it wasn’t with or around me. That they saw as the hard working. loving mother, will sacrifice anything, was so humble and just down to earth person that I am. Loved to make those laugh and would wipe your tears for you if you cried. Gave to those who I could and would help the community. Built a brand based around the people and never around greed.
