We recently had the chance to connect with Amber Portis and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes. Laughing is a necessary part of my day. Humor is apart of who I am and I am grateful my family, friends, and clients are HILARIOUS. It’s a necessity that everyone in my life is funny. A recent moment I am proud about is getting better about asking for help, in every area of my life. Physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, financial, etc. I am grateful I have the opportunity to pour into myself and invest in myself to be the woman God has called me to be.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Of course! My name is Amber, and I like to say I’m your favorite multi-faceted Gen Z girly. By day, I work as an Executive Assistant, and by night I pour into the businesses God has called me to build. I’m the founder of A.Greenhouse, my faith-based virtual assistant agency, and I’m also a personal trainer and wellness hype girl through my brand Root’d with Amber. Every now and then, you can also catch me on my podcast, Keepin’ It Green, where I talk about faith, wellness, and entrepreneurship.
What makes my brands special is that everything is rooted in wellness and Southern hospitality. Whether I’m supporting a client in their business or their health journey, I lead with care, warmth, and top-tier excellence. I’m passionate about mental health, leadership, and professional development, and I love helping high-achieving women create lives and businesses that feel good on the inside.
Outside of work, you can usually find me resetting at a local coffee shop , singing my heart out to some R&B music, or laughing with my family and friends. We’re truly a circle full of comedians.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my mom is truly special. That is my girl, my twin. We look alike, act alike, and the older I get, the more I see her in myself. She has shaped so much of who I am today, especially when it comes to discipline and structure.
Growing up, she taught me the importance of keeping things clean, organized, and in order. I will never forget those Saturday mornings, waking up at 5 or 6 a.m. to clean the house. At the time it felt like a chore, but now I see how those routines formed the foundation of the discipline I use every day as a business owner.
I have also watched her resilience up close and how she pushes through challenges with strength and grace. That is the part of her I am most proud to carry with me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. I actually almost closed my business last year during a four-month period of unemployment. In that moment, God told me absolutely not. Instead, He instructed me to start another business. That experience reminded me why having a strong foundation in faith is essential and why I stay grounded in it.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family, my health, and my community. I DO NOT PLAY ABOUT MY PEOPLE!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My personality. Always and forever will be ME honey!
