Meet Leila McGlothen of Aubrey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leila McGlothen.

Hi Leila, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started baking with my nana when I was just 12 years old. I came to realize that baking was my passion because when I began baking, all my problems would seem to disappear. I’ve been wanting to start my own business for a while, so I decided to open my own at-home bakery. I’ve made it this far by doing pop-ups to promote my business with our church members who own a restaurant. I’m very grateful that I was able to host pop-ups every month, which helped me generate sales. Also, being a teenage entrepreneur was very challenging with school, but I’ve always managed to fulfill my orders on time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t quite been a smooth ride, as I manage school, then come home to bake, while still needing to do homework. I struggled with the time; I stayed up very late to fulfill these orders. Having to manage a lot at once was a handful, but at the end of the day, I still made everything work and made customers happy. However, I always manage to get everything done, even when I am exhausted.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Loola’s Treats, we specialize in delivering special treats made with love. We are known for our brownies, cookies, cakes, and many other treats, and pop-ups at Burgerlicious, located in Lewisville, Texas. I am most proud of how far I’ve come over the past couple of years. What sets Loola’s Treats apart from other bakery businesses is making everything from scratch and with love, because without love, baking is just a process of combining ingredients.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For those who are just starting, make sure you have time management, a target audience, and set short and long-term goals. I believe having time management is very important because it will help you achieve your goals and reduce the stress on your shoulders. In addition, making sure what area you are in is the product you make for the target audience. You need to make sure you are not making products you like because you aren’t the target audience; your customers are. I struggled with making treats for my target audience because I wanted to make products that I wanted, not what my customers would like.
