Hidden Gems: Meet Sabrina Ruiz of The Aesthetic Barn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Ruiz.

Hi Sabrina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Sabrina, I grew up in Mesquite Tx where my mom owned a small hair salon. Growing up when I wasn’t in school I was always in and out of the salon. My dad was and still is a successful business owner as well, so I had pretty good role models in my opinion. I was always into the western country life. I loved riding horses and being around animals. So much so, my parents moved us to Kaufman Texas when I was around middle school age. My mom ended up selling her salon in downtown Mesquite, but she still continued to do hair in Kaufman. I had 2 horses and showed cattle in FFA. Junior year of high school I went on spring break and never went back to school because of covid. I did the rest and graduated online, while also attending esthetician school at Dallas Skin Institute. I was able to attend at 17 years old, because by the time I graduated both high school and esthetician school I would be 18 with my high school diploma and esthetician license. I then attended National Laser Institute and received my laser license. I also got to get experience at a MedSpa in Frisco TX, until I found out I was pregnant. I got pregnant when I was 19 and went through ups and downs to figure out my career life, being so young, and being a mom. I would watch all of my friends party and enjoy their first year of college, while I was prepping for my baby girl. That’s where I started doing lash extensions. I had a great opportunity to learn along side amazing and talented women that were also young moms. After having my daughter, I decided I wanted to venture on my own. I made a big decision to finance my own HydraFacial machine. I then opened my own salon suite to offer lash extensions and Hydrafacials and that’s where The Aesthetic Barn originated. My two passions in life in one name. Aesthetics and Barn – my western lifestyle. After a few years in my suite, I felt as though I needed to expand. I didn’t have a plan, I didn’t have much knowledge, but what I did have was the confidence in myself to do it. I looked at several potential business leases in Kaufman County and none of them ever worked out. It was to the point where I was giving up on the whole idea. I started going to church and praying about it. Not necessarily for a lease, but to help me find where I was supposed to be in life. January 1st 2025 I was driving through downtown Terrell one day and saw this little historic building with a small for lease sign in the window. I stopped the car, turned around, and called my realtor. I didn’t get obsessed about this building for some reason like I would the previous places. A part of me thought if it’s meant to be it will be and a part of me was at ease that I knew this was my building. By the end of January my lease was signed and that building was mine! We started the remodel process as soon as possible with new everything. We then officially opened in June of 2025. Continuing my two passions of aesthetics and western style, The Aesthetic Barn is best of both worlds. I am now a 22 year old salon owner, my daughter is 3 years old, and I have 13 beautiful and talented ladies working at the salon. We recently got voted Terrell’s Best salon of 2025 and I couldn’t be more proud of not only all the girls, but of myself. I truly couldn’t have done it without my family.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding a perfect place. I would get my hopes up fast on buildings that were never meant to be. Also the remodel process. That itself is a disaster.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Aesthetic Barn?
I offer Eyelash Extensions, Hydrafacials, and Advanced Facials. We also have 13 girls working there to provide you with the best services such as weightloss shots, vitamin shots, teeth whitening, botox, filler, waxing, facials, lash extensions, lash lifts, hair color, hair extensions and everything else hair.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family has been my number 1 supporters. My parents have been my biggest blessing and also my partner Hernesto Yanez who also own a concrete Company Second Generation Concrete.
