Community Highlights: Meet Champion Title Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Champion Title Agency.

Hi Champion Title Agency, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
“Background. of how we got together”- Kate Ruby and Rachel O’Dell began working together eight years ago at another title company. Rachel was head of escrow and trained Kate while she was in college.

“Our story”- During our time working for other companies, we felt like we weren’t able conduct business the right way. We felt like we wanted to be able to take care of people and do right by others, no matter what that looked like, therefore in 2022 we decided to open Champion Title Agency. We made this decision in August and by November we had bought and renovated a building, became licensed. and started closing files in December.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been one of the best decisions we’ve both made but also the hardest. We are not a part of a chain, therefore there was no map laid out for us on how to open a business and make it successful. We just had to hope and pray that our reason of wanting to take care of clients and others in our industry would help us find the path to success and it has. Every year theres a new challenge as we grow, but when making decisions we always go back to the foundation that we were built on and ask ourselves. “What is the best thing to do for those who have trusted us to help them in their buying/selling process?”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Champion Title Agency is a Title Insurance Company, we insure chains of title for residential and commercial properties. This allows buyers to have peace of mind when purchasing that they will own the property without liens or issues. A lot of people don’t know that there is more to owning property than a deed transfer.

Champion Title Agency is known for working with investors and creative financing. We work with all clients and all real estate transactions, however we specialize in creative deals all over Texas which are becoming more popular every year.

We are proud to say that not only do we take care of clients but we do our best to make the closing process as easy and enjoyable as possible. There is a lot that goes into buying or selling a home and it can be overwhelming. We feel like that’s part of what we are here for, to give clients peace at mind that we are taking care of their closing and them. This is one of the largest, if not the largest, transactions people make in their lifetime and it’s not something people do every day, month, or even year. If you don’t do this for a living, why would you know the ins and outs of it? You wouldn’t. It’s our job to know it for you.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Stand by what you believe in. We’ve spent large amounts of time on files that our company didn’t necessarily make the most amount of money on and we’ve have had to turn away contracts because we won’t work with parties that do not align with our moral standards. This is a hard concept to explain to others and we have had moments that we’ve upset people, but our goal has always been and will always be to do right by those who work with us. We would rather see Champion miss out on making money if it meant we had to stray from our foundation. As business owners, that was a hard recognization for ourselves that we may have to let files go or deny them. As Kate and Rachel, we’re proud that our company has the backbone to say no knowing it means losing a check.
