Today we’d like to introduce you to Mollie Jones.
Hi Mollie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For the last 50 years I have been a working artist. I started my journey honestly because my family needed money. For the next 28 years I successfully traveled and sold my pen&ink paintings all over the US. I got my children out of college (paid for by my art) and stopped traveling. Luckily I took a watercolor course at our local college, was introduced to the national juried society exhibition world by my teacher, and have experienced success there. I have achieved Sugnature Status in exhibitions in 9 national societies…topping off with being selected to represent the US in the watercolor world since 2017 in Fabriano, Italy. I continue to paint almost daily, teach watercolor workshops, and am a judge for exhibitions and participate in my local art league in construction of my artist life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being self taught in watercolor I would have progressed faster with an art education.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My artistry is working in transparent watercolor where I am known for my work in painting subjects of still life…mainly glass and silver. My signature color in my paintings is the use of reds.
My participation in the national and especially the international watercolor world tops my achievements.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Personally I am self taught. Understanding watercolor and how it works through continuous practice will develop your “style”. Style makes your work recognizable in the art world. I call the process as an artist putting in “brush years”’
