Rising Stars: Meet Andreas Warren Matti of Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreas Warren Matti.

Hi Andreas Warren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve crossed continents—China to France, Malaysia to Canada—searching for a moment that felt like belonging. Unexpectedly, Dallas became that place. There’s a warmth here, a steadiness, that made me pause and breathe.
Travel taught me everything I know about humanity. When you move without rigid plans, life rises to meet you—strangers become guides, kindness appears where you least expect it, and the world shows its softer edges. Those encounters shaped how I move through life: curious, open, and always listening.
Growing up between cultures made me feel different, but it also taught me to observe deeply. I’ve questioned identity, love, and the stories we inherit. Reflection hasn’t always been gentle, but it has given me clarity and compassion. I’m committed to living with honesty and intention, wherever the path leads next.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path wound through a small town where being different felt like standing against the tide. Leaving required courage; rebuilding required patience. Dallas became a place to let go of old patterns and rewrite my narrative.
Art demands truth. It asks you to face your fears and your hopes at the same time. My life has held heartbreak, joy, family tension, and the kind of growth that stretches you. All of it fuels the work I make.
I’ve stepped away from expectations and the molds others tried to place me in. My direction now comes from within—freedom, curiosity, and expression.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a visual artist—photographer, painter, and mixed-media creator. Ideas drive me; they arrive quickly and pull me in unexpected directions. That curiosity is my strength.
I photograph portraits and food, and I build visual art pieces that reflect the emotions and stories I can’t put into words. Recently, I organized more than 500 pieces I’ve made since 2020, seeing my work with the distance of a curator. The art is there; helping it meet the world is its own creative ritual.
Years in commercial photography took me around the globe and placed me alongside remarkable people—including the unforgettable experience of assisting on a Lee “Scratch” Perry shoot.
What sets me apart is my willingness to explore. I don’t cling to one identity or style. I allow my work to evolve as I do.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Honesty is my compass. I don’t pretend or perform a version of myself for acceptance. I’m many things at once, and I create from that place.
Being multi-passionate can confuse people who want simple categories, but my work lives in movement, transformation, and curiosity. Inspiration comes from everywhere, and I let it reshape me.
Artists often struggle with self-criticism, yet creation itself is the cure. I’ve been fortunate to have people who steadied me, but ultimately the work continues because it brings me back to myself.
At my core, I’m human—growing, expressing, and reaching for connection through every piece I make.
Thank you for letting me share my story with you.
