Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Kelly.
Hi Andrew, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Me, my brother, and my father started the food truck during Covid. We were worried when people couldn’t go to work and wanted to be in charge of when and where we could provide for our family. We had started cooking the onion burgers about 10 years ago at my dad’s house and always joked about how we should open a food truck, once Covid hit it seemed like the perfect opportunity. As far as the burgers go, they started during the dust bowl in Oklahoma where I grew up. We moved from Oklahoma when I was 6, but still go back every Christmas to see family. All year we would talk about the burgers and how we couldn’t wait to have one. Fast forward to 5 years later, after opening the food truck and we are still going strong. We do events all over DFW and continue to add new clients. I am now working the truck full time,
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It def wasn’t smooth at all when we started. I knew my way around a kitchen from working in/managing restaurants for the past 20 years, but as far as permits, booking, maintenance etc, it took a while to get used to. Not to mention gaining a following learning the ropes of social media. It’s been a long road but I am super proud of where we are today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are known for the Oklahoma fried Onion Burger which is our specialty. They are made with halal ground beef, thinly sliced onions are then smashed into the meat while they cook. This creates a unique flavor profile from the grilled onions, since some are charred, others sauteed’ and the juice from the onions melts into the meat. It’s not the type of burger you see at most establishments.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like how we live in a huge metroplex, that has the vibe of a small town. I love running into people I know, no matter what corner we are in. People here realize what’s good and what’s not, plus the southern hospitality of course. What’s not to love? No complaints here.
