Conversations with Stephen Dunn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Dunn.

Hi Stephen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My pen name is Stephen Daingerfield Dunn. I discovered my love of writing about 8 years ago, and since then I have authored close to 4,000 poems, and have published twelve books of poetry, including several illustrated children’s books, and a book about dogs, which I am currently in the process of marketing. I also really enjoy doing readings or creating bespoke poetry for special people or special occasions.

In the design world, my business is known as Stephen Dunn Designs. Designing homes, gardens, food, and home accessories have been interests of mine for a long time.. I have been involved in the design industry for 30+ years, as well as having a lengthy career as not only a hairdresser but the owner of two Dallas salons at Lou Lattimore and The Gazebo.

I have been honored by DHome and the Dallas Showrooms to havembeen selected as one of the city’s best designers for twelve continuous years. I am very proud to be on that prestigious list with many of my friends in the industry.

I love painting/art, entertaining, dancing, writing poetry, good conversation and have been an avid collector of antiquities in my
lifetime (still indulging in my admiration of art).

I have served on the board of various charities, and was part of the well-known DIFFA auction charity event, the denim jacket I designed is now in a British museum.

I am married to my partner of 42 years, Mr. Beau Black, who has been a
force unto himself in the Design Industry and Design Center, but that’s another story in inself!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have found my niche, after growing up in a small town among many people who did not accept me the way I am. As a gay man, I’m so grateful to have outlets for my creative self that so many people are appreciative of,

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Design, writing, collecting (both objects and beloved friends). I’m astonished at times at the life I’ve had.
