Today we’d like to introduce you to Dasiana Preston.
Hi Dasiana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a child, I was featured on national television shows including “The Tonight Show” for being known as The Whiz Kid. It was on one of the shows that I met Blair Underwood who offered me a starrring role in a film with him and Halle Berry. Although that film did not pan out, my love for the arts and entertainment did not die. I was featured in television shows such as Barney and worked as a child model. I continued to perform on stages across the DFW metroplex in high school and resumed performing once I graduated college. While I have been interested in writing-directing-producing my own content since I was about 12 years old, last year, I was able to make it happen. I directed my first short titled Hey Girly and released it on YouTube this year. I am so happy to be able to tell my own stories and give myself and my collaborators the chance to share our talents with the world. I believe it is my God-given purpose to have a career in entertainment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being rejected for auditions is one of an actor’s main struggles because it can really shake your confidence, but it was those rejections that pushed me to become a filmmaker and open doors for others that weren’t opened for me. Being a filmmaker comes with its own set of challenges, namely securing funding for films. I self-funded my first short, but I will be looking into grants and other means of fundraising for future films. Sometimes as a filmmaker, you struggle with the fear of rejection and the fear of the unknown, but I trust in myself and know that this is what I’m meant to do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am proud to call myself a filmmaker. I am a writer-director-producer-actress from Dallas, TX. I’m a multi-hyphenate!! 😂 I currently make short films in the thriller genre, but I am looking forward to expanding into features as well as television.
I am currently known for my debut short Hey Girly which premiered on YouTube October 24, 2025. It tells the story of a young woman whose life unravels after she exposes her lover’s deceit.
I’m proud of myself for taking the risk of making my first short although I didn’t have prior directing experience. I am extremely proud of this short and the actors and crew members who shared their talents with me. It makes me happy to know that people are enjoying Hey Girly, and I look forward to creating more films for audiences to love.
What sets me apart from others is that I don’t really care about resumes. I want to work with people who have a passion for the arts, regardless of their experience. I want to give everyone a chance to share their talents if they have the passion and commitment to do so.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I want to first give all glory and honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ without whom none of this is possible. He has blessed me with the talents of writing, filmmaking, acting, and performing, and I am eternally grateful.
My parents are definitely my biggest cheerleaders. My mom Senecca S. Preston was the first one who followed God’s lead to homeschool me which led me to being featured on national television for my genius abilities. She was the one driving me to and fro acting, dance, music, etc. classes to help me hone my talents. She even scored a role in my debut short! She is an incredible role model that I continue to look up to. My dad Dana Preston has always encouraged me to pursue a career in entertainment as well as get an education because he has always believed in my talents. He enjoys watching my performances and cheering me on along the way. My talented sister Senecca Lydi’a Preston is also in the arts and entertainment industry and has worked alongside me on several projects.
I am grateful for my high school drama teacher Mrs. Noble. Through her guidance and direction, I was able to hone my craft and perform on stages in front of thousands while keeping Jesus at the forefront. I am also grateful for John Hopkins with LTDM Entertainment who provided me with the opportunity to perform on stages across DFW, including the State Fair of Texas, as well as learn the unique skill of puppetry.
Finally, I’m thankful for new collaborators including Bri McKay, Harleigh Nelson, and Paul Michael O’Connor who have shared guidance with me as I foray into the world of filmmaking. I appreciate their insight and look forward to working with them on future projects.
