Rising Stars: Meet Kalyn Scott of dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalyn Scott.

Hi kalyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After getting out of the military in 2016 I came back home with skin issues and took it upon myself to try to find a dermatologist in dallas. While searching I came across esthetics school. I decided to tour the school and immediately fell in love with the idea of fixing my skin as well as helping others become more comfortable in their own skin. I started school at Aveda, this consisted of 10 hour days while also working a part time job. 6 months later I was the first to graduate in my class. After graduating I worked at a very well known med spa in Dallas for 3 years then later received an offer from a very well known med spa in Highland park. I worked there for 4 years but was unfortunately fired unexpectedly on a random Friday in 2024. I was told my termination was due to me “clearly not liking how things were run there any longer” but I knew it was because I had taken it upon myself to stand up for myself as well as my coworkers who were being mistreated, overworked, and underpaid. At that point I didn’t have many options as far as my future in esthetics so for two weeks I worked tirelessly day and night, some days not leaving my couch and working on my laptop for 8 hours straight. While applying for my LLC, ordering products, supplies, tools, equipment, etc I was also battling trying to receive unemployment of which my previous job tried having me denied from receiving. Nevertheless I was able to get my business up and running just two weeks after being wrongfully terminated. Here I am nearly 2 years later running a successful small esthetics business and I’ve never been happier. Most of my clients followed me and throughout this journey I was able to make new clients as well. I wake up everyday now fulfilled and certain of my decision more and more. I owe everything to my faith in God and his grace.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey was anything but easy, I was wrongfully and unexpectedly terminated, and nearly unable to receive unemployment. Not to mention I had to completely drain my savings in order to purchase everything I needed for my business all while still paying a mortgage, bills, and everything else that comes with that. I also had a 10 mile radius non-compete and could not work for a direct competitor. That’s when I knew it was time to go off on my own and start my business. I was faced with many sleepless nights and the constant questioning of “can I really do this”? I had to continually tell myself that “everything happens for a reason” and “good things happen to good people”. Looking back now the journey was rough but I’ve learned so much along the way and I’m continuing to learn as I go.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed medical Aesthetician, I specialize in result driven relaxing treatments. Acne is my true passion and I love finding out the root cause of each of my clients skin issues. I place a big emphasis on educating my clients on skincare as people get much of their information from social media nowadays. Iv always based my work off of ethics and never sales, my relationships and trust with my clients mean the absolute world to me.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I would eventually love to have a commercial building and hire employees under me and train them exactly how I do my treatments to help with my workload. The thought of teaching others and building a foundation based on ethics, values, and care brings meaning to my life personally. As of right now, I am happy in my comfy suite and being able to go to work everyday knowing I’m making a difference in my clients lives.
