Meet Colton Ryan Armstrong of Palestine, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colton Ryan Armstrong.

Hi Colton Ryan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At the age of 13, I began playing bass guitar for a local band until the band eventually broke up.

Not long after the band broke up, I wrote my first song, “Talk of The Town” at the age of 13. After writing my own song & learning multiple cover songs, I began playing a few songs here and there when some of my artist friends would take breaks during their shows.

I also attended Payton Riley’s Young Artist Songwriter’s Retreat in October of 2024. That is where I met some of my closest friends and was inspired to continue to write.

Since then I have written between 15 & 20 songs. I have three acoustic and one acoustic live recording available on all music platforms. Those songs are My Own Time, Talk of The Town, Frosted Window and my live recording of Tonight.

I have also played a lot of shows throughout the state of Texas and in a few surrounding states while being the main performer and supporting other artists as their opener.

After a little over a year of playing and writing, I was nominated for Young Artist Of The Year (under 18) and Social Impact Song Of The Year for Talk Of The Town at the 2025 Josie Music Awards.

I continue to write and perform almost every weekend. This is what I love to do and I see myself pursuing this as a career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like the biggest struggle I’ve had has been finding a band. That part is coming together though.

However, I am learning what it takes to get noticed and get scheduled for shows. I have spent many weekends traveling from town to town and walking into establishments and showing them what I’ve got with the hopes they decide to schedule me for future shows.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a 15 year old musician from East Texas who has been writing songs since I was 13 years old. I feel I am known for my songwriting and my voice. I write songs that people can relate to while also being able to share my own experiences.

I am most proud of the fact that I am able to do what I love consistently and that I was an official nominee for two Josie Music Awards.

I am told that the one thing that sets me apart from other artists or kids my age is the way I carry myself and my ability to have a conversation with anyone.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Being able to take risks is something I don’t feel I shy away from. The biggest risk I think I took showed me how much I really love music and being on stage. That was getting up and singing karaoke for the first time when I was 12.

After that, the biggest risk I took was when I stepped on stage for the first time, playing a guitar and singing in front of a crowd in the Fort Worth Stockyards. This was during a friend’s show and he was taking a quick break. I had never played guitar and sang at the same time, especially in front of a crowd.
