Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Alvarez.
Hi Fernando, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I studied Marketing in Mexico and finished in Madrid, Spain. Went back to Querétaro and worked for a media company for 3 years. Then, I started my first business, a Media Buying Agency. We worked with national clients and handled OOH campaigns. In 2016, I got my US citizenship and that’s when I decided to visit some friends in Dallas in order to get started here. I got a job at Agency Entourage as the Hispanic Marketing Director. One year later, launched Vaquero Advertising, as a genuine Hispanic Marketing Agency.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been exciting and challenging. In the beginning, I knew just a few people here and my language was limited, so I needed to expand my network and to practice my English in order to land new clients. I had very limited resources but I always had faith, courage and a great business partner to work with.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Bueno… I guess one of the things that I’m really proud of, is the fact that in Vaquero, more than a group of employees or just a common team, we are a family. All of us are proud Latinos and super passionate about every single project that we do. We have worked with Fortune 100 companies and with medium size companies also. We know the Hispanic culture so well, that we know how to create impactful campaigns for our clients that resonate with the Latinos. This is the fastest growing demographic in the US and we can help almost any brand to expand its footprint within this market.
What makes you happy?
Spend time with my familia. My wife and I have 2 babies that are just adorable. I also enjoy playing golf, traveling across the US, Mexico and Europe. I love riding helicopters and meeting new people.
