Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Hartford.
Hi Brenda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into esthetics wasn’t simple or glamorous — it was built from pain, passion, and a deep desire for change. I’ve always loved skincare. I was the friend people came to with questions, the one researching ingredients, and the one fascinated by how skin heals. But even with that passion, life had me juggling being a mom of three boys, working a 9–5, and carrying responsibilities that felt heavy.
Then life hit even harder. I lost my brother — a pain that changed me forever. Grief isn’t something you “get over,” it’s something you survive day by day. His loss forced me to take a hard look at my life, my surroundings, and my future. As a mother and an aunt of 14 boys, I knew I wanted a better life for me, my kids, and my nephews. I wanted to leave the environment that took my brother’s life — an environment I refused to let swallow my children, my nephews, or my dreams. That moment became my turning point, and I decided to bet on myself. I enrolled in esthetics school while working and raising my kids. It wasn’t easy — but I pushed through because I knew I was building something bigger. When I became a licensed esthetician in Texas, I fell in love with corrective skincare. Helping people heal, feel confident, and love their skin gave me purpose. That’s how Glass Skin Esthetics was born — not just a business, but a fresh start. A safe space. A place built from healing, growth, and elevation. I wanted to create an elegant, exclusive experience for professional women and skincare lovers who want real results and real care. I invested in my craft, learned advanced techniques, expanded my services, and chose quality products like Skin Script to deliver the best. Life slowed me down at times, but it never stopped me. I returned more focused, more intention, and a goal of serving at least five clients each week while balancing my 9–5. Today, I’m working on getting my own suite, building my own skincare line, and growing a loyal community of clients who trust me with their skin. My brother’s memory fuels me. My boys motivate me. My nephews and nieces motivate me. And my passion guides me forward every single day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
1. Consistent Clients
One of my biggest challenges has been building and maintaining a steady flow of clients. As a licensed esthetician who also works a 9–5, I’ve had to balance my schedule, rebuild my clientele after taking time off, and stay consistent with marketing, even when life gets overwhelming. Growing a loyal client base takes time, visibility, and trust — and that’s something I’m still working toward every day.
2. Finding the Right Suite
Another struggle has been finding a suite that truly fits my professional needs. I need a space that offers:
• Good parking for clients
• Privacy for the type of services I provide
• A clean, comfortable environment that matches the luxury and exclusivity of my brand
• A location that feels safe and accessible for both me and my clients
Finding a suite that checks all those boxes — and fits my budget — has been a challenge, but it’s important because the right environment affects the entire client experience.
3. Balancing It All
Between being a mother, an aunt to 14 boys, working a full-time job, and running my business, balancing everything is a struggle in itself. But I keep pushing because my passion, my family, and my purpose keep me going.
We’ve been impressed with Glass Skin Esthetics , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Glass Skin Esthetics is a luxury skincare studio specializing in corrective facials and customized treatments. I focus on helping clients struggling with acne, hyperpigmentation, texture issues, and dull skin feel confident and radiant.
What sets my business apart is the combination of results-driven treatments and a relaxing, exclusive experience — clients leave not only with glowing skin, but also feeling seen, cared for, and educated about their skin. I’m proud to be building my own skincare line and a community of clients who trust me with their skin.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has played a role in my journey — both good and bad. Losing my brother was a devastating setback, but it became a turning point that fueled my drive. Good luck showed up through opportunities I recognized, like attending esthetics school, building my suite, and developing my skincare line. Ultimately, it’s hard work, focus, and resilience that turned those moments of luck into real success.
