Inspiring Conversations with Sabrina Dragan of Dragan Smiles Complete Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Dragan.

Sabrina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since 2017, I have dedicated my career to pediatric dentistry. I earned my dental degree from the former Baylor College of Dentistry—now the Texas A&M University School of Dentistry—right here in Dallas. During my training, I met Dr. Mike Plunk, a respected pediatric dentist and orthodontist whose practice I would later acquire in 2020. Dr. Plunk built a remarkable foundation of compassionate, high-quality care, and it has been a privilege to carry that legacy forward.
In 2025, I rebranded the practice to reflect both our philosophy and the comprehensive range of services we provide. Today, Dragan Smiles Complete Pediatric Dentistry represents exactly that—complete care for growing children. Our office offers everything from tongue- and lip-tie releases to airway-focused dental expansion, access to a board-certified orthodontist, and the full spectrum of traditional pediatric dentistry, including fillings and esthetic white crowns.
My commitment to clinical excellence has led me to pursue thousands of hours of continuing education. This advanced training allows me to stay at the forefront of material science, orthodontic techniques designed to create space for developing permanent teeth, and approaches that support optimal health and airway development. It also enables us to integrate modern technology that makes dental visits easier, more comfortable, and more positive for our patients.
Beyond clinical practice, I am deeply involved in organized dentistry and ongoing research that helps advance our profession. I also hold teaching roles across North Texas, where I train fellow pediatric dentists in minimally invasive techniques, including the use of laser dentistry.
At Dragan Smiles, our mission is simple: to provide exceptional, compassionate, and comprehensive care that helps every child we treat grow, breathe, and smile with confidence.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning a private practice comes with its fair share of challenges—but the rewards are even greater. Every day, I’m learning more about the business side of dentistry so I can continue delivering the highest level of care while growing the practice to uphold the reputation established by its previous owner. As one of Dallas’s oldest pediatric dental practices—founded in 1978—our legacy is something I take immense pride in preserving and elevating.

On a personal level, my journey has been shaped by resilience and determination. I grew up in Los Angeles, raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly to give me every opportunity she could. Although I didn’t fully understand our financial hardships at the time, I now recognize the sacrifices she made and the strength she modeled. I knew I wanted to be a dentist by the time I was five years old, and pursuing that dream required a significant investment in my education—one I made without financial support from family.

Purchasing my practice was another major leap of faith, both professionally and financially. But the trust and support of the families we serve have made every risk worthwhile. Their belief in our mission is what has allowed my practice to grow into the thriving, community-centered office it is today, and for that, I am profoundly grateful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Dragan Smiles Complete Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics?
Pediatric dentistry is evolving rapidly—far beyond the way it was practiced 30 years ago, or even five years ago. As a primary care provider for children’s oral and craniofacial health, I have the privilege of watching my patients grow from infancy onward. We often begin seeing children around age one, and in some cases even earlier when a tongue- or lip-tie release is needed to support feeding.

Because pediatric dentists specialize in craniofacial growth and development, we are uniquely positioned to observe how children progress through their milestones. With routine visits every six months, I can often identify concerns that might otherwise go unnoticed—whether they relate to speech, feeding, behavior, sleep, or breathing. Our practice is uniquely designed with both pediatric dentistry and orthodontic care under one roof, allowing us to recognize developing issues earlier, intervene more effectively, and provide unmatched convenience for families in East Dallas.

I also have advanced training in laser dentistry, which allows me to perform procedures—such as decay removal—without the need for local anesthesia or traditional dental drills. Combined with a variety of minimally invasive techniques, this technology helps create gentle, positive experiences that make kids genuinely enjoy coming to the dentist.

By collaborating with a wide network of providers throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area, I’m able to help families access the resources they need to thrive. Dentistry and medicine have long recognized the powerful connection between oral health and overall health, but today’s level of interdisciplinary cooperation is remarkable. In many ways, I feel like a concierge guide for families—connecting them to the right specialists, empowering them with knowledge, and ensuring their children receive comprehensive, whole-body care.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love listening to podcasts, especially during car rides—like when I’m picking up my daughter from school, which makes carpool time fly by! Some of my favorites include Armchair Expert, TED Talks Daily, and The Productivity Show.
