Hi Jennifer , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As far back as I can remember, I had a desire to travel and go places. As a preteen, I had a summer job at the local fireworks stand. I saved my money and decided to spend it on an airline ticket to see my cousins in Michigan. I walked to International Tours, the travel agency down the street, and purchased a ticket, and then shared the news with my parents that I was going to visit my cousins for the remainder of the summer. I continued working summers, and in the spring of my 16th year, I decided to visit a foreign exchange student in Mexico. Again, I walked to the travel agency and purchased my ticket, and then shared the news with my parents that I was going to Mexico for the summer.
I got married, had children, and homeschooled them until they went off to college. My love of travel inspired me to design educational trips both domestically and internationally as part of their education. Once my children were in college, I felt the need to do something, so I started designing vacations for others. In a very short time, my hobby passion became a full-time job, and I opened my own agency. I began traveling more and more and spending a lot of time in Italy, Mexico, and South Africa. I have visited over 50 countries, but those three kept calling me back. In 2022, I bought a home in San Miguel de Allende and lived there part-time. My travels to Italy and my many months spent in the country have made me an expert on Italy. While I do plan trips all over the world, my favorite ones are still Italy, South Africa, and Mexico.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you do what you love, the bumps in the road aren’t as painful.
I would say COVID was the most complex challenge to date, with cancellations, refunds, date changes, etc. I spent days on hold to change and cancel reservations. The one thing I am very proud of is that no client lost a dime during COVID.
The only other challenge is when potential clients lack trust and believe they can do it better. I have learned to let it go, or bless and release, because they are not my ideal clients. My clients trust me to deliver the best value for the budget they provide, and I do my very best to ensure this.
