Story & Lesson Highlights with Dominick Williams

We recently had the chance to connect with Dominick Williams and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominick, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m definitely walking a path with intention, but I’m not afraid to wander. Every step I take is guided by a bigger vision, but the detours have shaped me just as much as the milestones. Wandering is where I’ve found new sounds, new truths, and new parts of myself. So yeah — I’m on a path, but I let life remix it. That’s what makes the journey feel real.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Nostalgia — a Dallas-born artist carving my own lane in Alternative R&B and Rap. My sound comes from the places I’ve lived in emotionally: the memories that raised me, the wounds that taught me, and the moments that shifted everything.

My alto-tenor voice, paired with my own production, lets me pull from the legends who shaped me while still creating something new. I dive into strange, beautiful pockets of sound, blending vulnerability, rhythm, and experimentation in a way that feels like both a confession and a world to get lost in.

What I create isn’t just music — it’s an experience. I want listeners to feel seen, to feel held, to feel something move in them. Every song is an invitation into intimacy, memory, and truth.

I’m here to make work that lives in your chest. The voice of Nostalgia speaks to the soul — and if I do my job right, my music becomes the soundtrack to your life.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’m releasing the part of me that chased validation just to feel worthy. That version carried me through a lot; it taught me resilience, discipline, and how to survive storms I didn’t yet have the language for. But I’m stepping into a season where survival isn’t the goal anymore. I’m creating from clarity now—from a deeper trust in my voice, my path, and the timing of it all. I don’t need to be witnessed to be certain. I just need to be aligned.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep going. The things that make you feel different now are the things that will make you unforgettable later. And trust the timing — every closed door is really a quiet redirection, guiding you toward the version of yourself you haven’t met yet. You’re being shaped in ways your younger eyes can’t see, softened and sharpened for a future that’s already waiting for you.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building a body of work that outlives me. I don’t care how long it takes — I’m here to create music, moments, and worlds that people can return to again and again, discovering new truths and feeling the impact in a way that shapes culture. This is bigger than just songs; it’s a legacy in motion.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Many won’t see the depth behind the work — the late nights, the doubts, and the risks that shaped every song. My legacy isn’t just the music itself; it’s how my voice moves people, shifts perspectives, and creates moments that linger long after the sound fades — an experience, a feeling, a thread woven into the lives of those who truly listen.
