Life & Work with Sofia Gonzales of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Gonzales.

Hi Sofia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Howdy! I’m Sofia Gonzales and I’m from San Antonio, Texas. I am the 4th great granddaughter of Jose Antonio Navarro who gave total allegiance to Texas before it was annexed in 1845, signed the Texas Declaration of Indepenence, and fought for Tejano rights. My mom, Consepcion Gonzales, and I were recently inducted into the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. I am learning so much more about Texas history and about my family. I count this as the highest blessing, and this has led me to know why I do what I do. I love to serve others.

I’m in the business of helping people protect their home with a security system at America’s Ultimate Security. I also help provide options for a whole house water filtration system with The Water Man. My father, Willie Gonzales, has also been a huge inspiration. He was a San Antonio Police Officer for over 30 years, and I wanted to fight crime too. I saw my dad as a superhero. I wanted to join the police force but waited to complete my college degree. After graduation I changed my mind from helping fight crime to helping prevent crime. Hence, my career in home security. Then, many of my clients started asking me for help with a water softener. I found The Water Man, a full-service water treatment company with options from water softeners and reverse osmosis systems to complete filtration setups.

And last but not least, I’m a crafter. I own and operate a small jewelry business. I make jewelry, accessories, and I love to upcycle. When a customer’s face oozes joy or excitement from something my hands have made, my heart jumps. It makes me so happy. I’d like to say that God gave me talent in my hands because I’m also a percussionist. And I play the piano. If you’re starting to know my personality, it wouldn’t take you long to believe that sometimes I serenade my customers. They never expect it, but I love having fun and bringing good energy. I’m a big believer in that we reap what we sow, and I want to focus on sowing the good, so I can reap the good.

Though I have a lot of fun, I’ve learned that this type of industry takes intense discipline and self-management. Few see the behind scenes of the hustle and bustle grind. The struggle is definitely real. I’ve quit in my head and least a dozen times, but a simple change in thought can change your attitude to keep going. Plus, I pray a lot. I’m always seeking guidance and direction.

I recently lost a good friend of mine. I miss her so much. Mutual friends gathered around and we talked about memories and the question came up. How do you want to be remembered? This question is quickly shaping the direction I see in my near future. I want to be remembered for having the courage to be the bravest of them all. Fear can hinder you from becoming your best self. But fear is normal. Everyone experiences it. It takes bravery to step outside your comfort zone. And I love it when people have the courage to do that. Being brave doesn’t mean you have no fear. It’s only the appearance of no fear because you embrace fear with all your strength and have the courage to move forward anyway.

So cheers to being the bravest of them all. Here’s me lifting my imaginary glass and toasting you to be the bravest of them all.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t know what a smooth road looks like. I’d say I’ve been on a rollercoaster track all my life with with highs and lows, twists and turns, but it has not been boring. I’ve had some struggles along the way, I’d say too many to name. Instead of listing them, I’d like to say it’s unusual to think struggles can be part of a divine plan, but somehow God always takes care of me. I now have many testimonies and renewed faith.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
