Meet DarkEntity of Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to DarkEntity.

Hi darkEntity, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We met while attending the University of North Texas (UNT), where we were both enrolled in the electronic music concentration. At the time, we were individually pursuing careers in film scoring—Andrew as a trombone concentration and Michael as a percussion concentration. After realizing that a traditional classical performance path wasn’t the right fit, we independently auditioned for the electronic music program, completely unaware of each other’s existence.

We officially crossed paths in E2, UNT’s electronic performance ensemble, where our shared interest in electronic music driven by narrative and atmosphere quickly drew us together. That connection led to our first major collaboration, Alternate Dimensions—a 10-minute immersive dance music performance accompanied by three-screen visuals, marking the beginning of darkEntity!

From there, our creative partnership evolved into a deeper love for EDM and house music, with an intentional shift toward the club and festival circuit. While still in college, we spent countless hours in the studio and released six tracks together. Since then, we’ve performed at select events and festivals and continue to refine both our sound and our artistic identity as a duo.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been without challenges, but adaptability and our trust and confidence in eachother have always been central to how we move forward. One of our most significant hurdles came recently when we graduated a semester apart. We had grown used to working side by side in the studio and had developed an efficient collaborative workflow. When Andrew relocated to Houston after graduating, we were forced to transition our sessions to a fully remote setup.

While the shift initially felt reminiscent of the COVID era, we were able to translate much of our in-person process to Zoom. Although it’s not a perfect replacement for being in the same room, we’ve remained committed to making it work—and just as importantly, we continue to enjoy creating music together!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are electronic music producers specializing in progressive house and tech house. Our sound blends driving grooves and bold energy with euphoric atmospheres, strong thematic direction, and detailed sound design. We work hard to create music that feels equally at home on festival stages, in club environments, and on the dancefloor!

What we’re most proud of is our constant push to evolve—experimenting with new sounds, techniques, and stylistic ideas while staying true to our core identity. What sets us apart is our foundation in audio engineering and composition, which allows us to approach dance music with a level of technical precision and emotional depth that elevates the listening experience.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Despite how aligned our creative instincts are today, our musical upbringings were strikingly different! Andrew grew up immersed in classic rock and singer-songwriter music, drawing inspiration from artists like The Beatles, The Doors, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, and Hozier. Michael, meanwhile, was shaped by grunge, alternative rock, and hip-hop, with influences including Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Breaking Benjamin, Twenty One Pilots, Eminem, and J. Cole.

Those contrasting backgrounds play a major role in shaping our sound. Bringing together different musical perspectives allows us to approach production from multiple angles, resulting in a dynamic and distinctive creative balance that defines darkEntity.
