Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanishia Richmond.
Hi Tanishia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began in survival and evolved into purpose. I was once diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and placed on sixteen medications a day while my body was shutting down. After months of hospitalizations and surgeries, I reached a point where I had to make a decision to either accept decline or fight for my life. I chose to fight.
Through a commitment to holistic healing that addressed my mind, body, and spirit, I transformed my health. I released over one hundred and sixty pounds, regained my strength, and learned how powerful education, faith, and intentional wellness truly are. What began as personal healing soon became a calling to serve others who were silently struggling with their health and mindset.
That calling led to the creation of HealthTee.Life and Sunflower Holistics, where I provide wellness education, nutrition support, and fitness rooted in sustainability and empowerment. It also led to the founding of We Rise Holistic, a nonprofit organization focused on bringing holistic health education, nutrition access, and community based wellness initiatives to underserved communities.
Today, I am an author, certified nutritionist, holistic life coach, and community organizer. Everything I do is driven by the belief that healing is not a privilege but a right, and that when individuals are given the tools to care for their minds and bodies, entire communities can rise. My story is not just about overcoming illness. It is about transforming adversity into impact and using lived experience to create lasting change.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
{inserts chuckle here} Absolutely not. This journey has been filled with physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges that tested my endurance at every level. Navigating chronic illness while rebuilding my health required discipline, patience, and unwavering faith, especially during moments when progress felt slow or uncertain.
Beyond my health, I faced the struggle of building something meaningful without a blueprint. Transitioning from personal healing into entrepreneurship and nonprofit work came with financial strain, skepticism, and the pressure of being the visionary while still doing the work. There were moments of isolation, moments of doubt, and moments when quitting would have been easier than continuing. Moments of being homeless…no transportation. It seemed like adversary after adversaries kept arising.
One of the greatest challenges was learning how to trust my own voice and remain aligned with my purpose despite external noise. Growth often requires standing alone before others understand the vision. Each obstacle forced me to strengthen my mindset, deepen my faith, and commit fully to the mission. Those struggles did not stop the journey. They shaped it, refined it, and prepared me to lead with authenticity, resilience, and compassion.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work centers on holistic wellness education, mindset transformation, and community empowerment. I specialize in helping individuals understand how mental alignment, emotional resilience, and intentional health choices work together to support sustainable well being. Through Sunflower Holistics, I provide nutrition education, fitness guidance, and wellness programming rooted in real life application rather than extremes or quick fixes.
I am also the founder of We Rise Holistic, a nonprofit organization focused on bringing holistic health education, nutrition access, and wellness resources into communities that have historically lacked support. My work extends into authorship, public speaking, and community organizing, where I use lived experience to educate and inspire others to take ownership of their health and healing.
What I am most proud of is turning my personal healing journey into a platform that serves others. Losing over one hundred and sixty pounds and recovering from chronic illness was only the beginning. Building programs, partnerships, and safe spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered is the true achievement.
What sets me apart is authenticity. I do not teach theory alone. I teach what I have lived. Every program, message, and initiative I create is grounded in experience, faith, and education. I believe healing is personal, but transformation becomes powerful when it is shared. That belief continues to shape the work I do and the impact I am committed to creating. Publishing my second book, “The Sunflower Effect” has been the highlight and blueprint to this whole operation.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I view risk as a necessary part of growth, especially when staying comfortable costs more than stepping forward. Some of the most important decisions in my life were not calculated business risks. They were faith driven choices made when remaining where I was no longer aligned with survival or purpose.
One of the greatest risks I took was choosing to change my life when my health was failing. Walking away from dependence on medications and committing fully to holistic healing required trust, discipline, and the willingness to be misunderstood. Later, stepping into entrepreneurship and nonprofit leadership was another major risk. I invested time, resources, and energy into building platforms that did not come with guarantees, only conviction.
I do not see myself as reckless or impulsive. I see risk as intentional. I evaluate whether a decision aligns with my values, my health, and the impact I am called to create. When fear is present but clarity is stronger, I know it is time to move. Risk, to me, is not about chasing opportunity. It is about honoring purpose and trusting that obedience will open doors that comfort never could.
