Hi Duane , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Sunset Hill Tree Farm is a working farm offering fresh-cut and choose-and-cut Christmas trees, a pumpkin patch in October, and educational tours for schools, church groups, and families. It also hosts events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, and family reunions in a scenic setting. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff, family-friendly atmosphere, and the creation of lasting traditions, with many highlighting it as a delightful experience. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The first trees were planted in 1997. As several fields were getting close to marketable in 2011, a transformer blew at the edge of the property and all of the 3000 trees were burned (except for one). On 2022 as we were getting full fields again the summer was very brutal, the daytime temperatures were 110 several days in a row and the nighttime temps did not get below 80 so Our trees were not able to cool down. They began burning up, even the large trees we lost hundreds of trees that summer but we we also learned what it would take to save them and shared that information with our fellow farmers and saw many trees that year and the next when the summer was equally hot and dry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are very blessed to be able to be a part of so many families lives and memories. Making memories is one of our favorite and most cherished products. Duane is a master artist and builder. He built all of the structures on the property and wrote a children’s book about the one tree that survived the fire. We also branched out and planted a vineyard where we are one of the few vineyards in Texas growing true Texas Munson varietal grapes. We have a beautiful winery where we once again help people make wonderful memories hosting birthdays and other special events.

People. We understand that people will come back if they feel appreciated and loved. We love to build community and be surrounded by people who love us back.
