Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Anderson.
Hi Debbie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Below is a brief bio as to the various opportunities I have had to lead in Mesquite …. currently my main focus is presiding over the MCPAAA (Mesquite Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association)…but I stay very busy in other functions.
Started volunteering when my sons were young, sports and PTAs…graduated to supporting Make a Wish Foundation as one of my sons was granted a wish…and we both wanted to give back….graduated to setting up and organizing a crime watch group in my neighborhood and it just took off from there….I built quite the reputation in Mesquite as someone who would get the job done….
I have truly enjoyed serving the community in every post I have served on….and am not stopping….yet!

Believe that the best way to find yourself, is to lose oneself in the service of others, dedication and service has been a driving force in my life. It has been instrumental in opening doors to other areas of service in Mesquite.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Mostly smooth….political elections are hard, but was very rewarding to be a part of history in Mesquite….
My real passion, however, has always been with the MCPAAA. Our members are wonderful volunteers and we are serving not only MPD but the community we live in.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Volunteering and being of service is a real passion. I contribute more than 2,000 hours yearly and am grateful to be able to do so.
I find it difficult to turn away from needs that I can help with….I have a very positive attitude, responsive. and usually can find a way to make things happen. I have been blessed to have many contacts in Mesquite and usually know who is the best source to get the job done.
Most proud of our Alumni Association….we are currently the 2025 State of Texas Alumni Association and that is for all the work we do in the community.
Our largest fundraising events include Santa Cop – we have hosted/sponsored for MPD 6 years now we also began providing scholarships just last year.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I had a great mentor for MCPAAA- past president for 17 years…..I have found that pride has to get out of the way…ask for help when needed.
