Meet Kim Bailey of Kimtations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Bailey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been very creative. As a teenager in the Caribbean, we had to select the areas we would specialize in as a career at 15. However, I felt the options available were not appealing to me. I chose The Arts but at the time had the perception that it was just a filler to pass the time. Needless to say, it was exactly where I needed to be. Fast forward I always create pieces for my home, friends, and family but never sold any.

In December 2016 friends got together and created my blog www.kimtations.com as a Christmas gift. This propelled me to share more of my creations which led to people showing interest in purchasing them. The Idea for Crafting with a Twist-C-WAT, came when friends showed interest in assisting with some projects. Today I host C-WAT where crafters are encouraged to BYOB, enjoy good music, and create something beautiful. Thus far I’ve hosted approximately 10 classes of various themes. I also do Craft parties.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not. My goal is to grow C-WAT and for now, I try to host classes monthly. The struggle is consistency in the classes; I can’t have a class if people aren’t available to attend. Also getting my name out there. As a startup finances are not readily available so all advertising is done via word of mouth and social media.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am most proud of C-WAT and the unique concept. I love seeing the excitement of crafters when they complete a project. Each class is approximately 2-4 hours and is accompanied by light jazz, hearty conversation, and a creative atmosphere. C-WAT allows one to get away for some time, and relax. I am also proud of the many items I have made. Each piece is made unique and never duplicated. I specialize in wood burning, painting, wedding decor, wreaths, and decorative pieces.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up on the beautiful island of Saint Lucia where I spent the first 28 years of my life. As an adult, I can look back and say I had a great childhood. I miss the beaches and many holidays, the food and people. I spent a lot of time in church. As a teenager, I played netball (female version of basketball), and track. Many who know me today will be surprised to know I was also a tomboy… lol… but I was. I goal then was simply to make my parents happy, now my goal is to be happy. I loved books and still do today; I can’t get into the ebooks, give me paper. I wanted to have my own library.

Pricing:

I have experienced C-WAT and really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to do it again. I really like how Kim encouraged us to be different in our creations.

    Keep on growing!
