An Inspired Chat with Amber Tolbert of Southern Dallas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amber Tolbert. Check out our conversation below.

Amber, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity.
Because intelligence can be used wrong, energy can be wasted, but integrity keeps me aligned.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amber Tolbert, and I’m the creator of Blooming Buds Candles and Charmingly Cancer. I’m a multi-passionate entrepreneur who turns emotion, energy, and storytelling into products and content that resonate deeply with people.

Blooming Buds Candles is my heart-led, Black-owned candle and body care brand. I handcraft candles, massage oils, and seasonal collections that aren’t just products, they’re experiences. My brand has been featured on national radio, highlighted in VoyagerTX, and supported at pop-ups, beauty supply stores, and homes all across the U.S. and most recent international. Every item I create is rooted in intention, comfort, and soulful aromatherapy.

Charmingly Cancer is my viral zodiac-themed platform where I mix raw honesty, humor, healing, and relatable Cancer energy into content that makes people feel seen. It started as a fun creative outlet and grew into a community that loves the realness, the emotion, and the unapologetic vibe of being a Cancer. Now I’m expanding it with digital products, templates, journals, and exclusive content.

Right now, I’m focused on scaling both brands, continuing my passion for candle-making, launching new digital products, and building Charmingly Cancer into a full-time platform. Everything I create comes from a place of authenticity, emotion, and connection. My story is still being written, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what’s next.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that kept shrinking myself to keep the peace.
She served her purpose, but she’s done. I’m releasing the version of me that dimmed her light to make other people comfortable.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the defining wounds of my life was learning that love isn’t enough when it’s not balanced, safe, or reciprocated. I carried that hurt for years, thinking loyalty meant holding on no matter what.
I healed by choosing myself, setting boundaries, and realizing that peace is worth more than history.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what really matters to me is peace, loyalty, and genuine connection. I don’t care for surface‑level anything. I want people around me who are solid, honest, and rooted in real love.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think some will misunderstand that my legacy is about perfection or achievements. It’s not. It’s about growth, healing, and resilience — showing that even through heartbreak, doubt, and struggle, you can rise and still stay true to yourself.
