Kelcee Skoug of Fort Worth on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Kelcee Skoug and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelcee, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Typically wake up around 8am, then I go workout at 9am. Depending on what I have going on in my day, I always try to keep my consistency when it comes to my morning routine. Given the profession I decided to choose, my schedule is all over the place!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a photographer & videographer from East Texas. Constantly looking for avenues to elevate my craft. I mainly focus on sports storytelling but I also pride myself in having a broader portfolio. As a graduate of TCU, I currently own and operate an LLC where I have freelanced nationwide. Not only do I capture memories through still images, but I also bring stories to life through my videography. I like to consider myself a unicorn in the industry. I love a challenge but I also love being eager and enjoy learning new ways to elevate my work.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
There was no before, I have always been true to myself and I am proud to say that. Now, with that being said after 30 years of being present on this earth it has taught me valuable lessons that have molded who I am today . At my core I have always been the curious confident & passionate woman that God created me to be. Doesn’t mean over the years I have fallen to comments from people throughout my career, I take those moments to better myself while still staying true to who I am at the end of the day. Always stay true to who you are!

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
The first time I failed I was beyond distraught. I am hardwired not necessarily to be perfect(no one is) but I also hate disappointing people/clients. My biggest takeaway after failing or coming up short with a client is that I do not allow me to fail in that specific way again. I am the type where when(because there will always be a when) I come up short to never let that happen again, I am a one & done. I learn and then move forward.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Smart people are a treasure, but to be the smartest in the room isn’t where it’s at. Be curious & keep it simple.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
At the moment I am exactly where I need to be in my career. The fact that I get to capture sports for a living makes me giddy just typing it out!
