Meet Megan Martin of DFW Swim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Martin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Megan Martin—a San Diego native, born at Balboa Naval Medical Center. I grew up in Southern California but traded the coast for Texas as soon as I could. Today, I call McKinney home, where I live with my husband and our children.

My journey with kids started early: I began nannying professionally and coaching cheerleading and gymnastics at 14 and continued through college. After going to college for Child Development and Psychology from Irvine, CA, I spent 13 years as a professional nanny before welcoming my own little ones.

Safety is at the heart of everything I do. I’m a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) through NHTSA and Safe Kids Worldwide, and a dedicated survival swim instructor. Whether it’s securing a car seat or teaching a child to float, I partner with families to protect their most precious cargo—in the water and on the road.

When my son was an infant, I discovered Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) after learning that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4. Determined to protect him, I enrolled him in ISR lessons and ensured he completed every refresher course.

Inspired by the program’s impact, I applied to become a certified ISR instructor in 2018 and was accepted into the training program in 2019. My daughter was born in 2020, and she began ISR lessons in 2021. I proudly served as a certified ISR instructor from 2019 to 2025.

In late 2025, I traveled to Colorado for advanced training, where I worked in the water alongside experienced instructors. This hands-on experience introduced me to new teaching techniques and deepened my ability to serve families effectively.

Though I’m no longer affiliated with ISR, I’m excited to continue this vital work independently. I now offer survival swim and skill-based lessons for:

Infants starting at 5 months

Children of all ages

Adults (newly added!)

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Training was intense with a newborn and 8 weeks of academics and 6 weeks in water was a difficult road. Building a business and all of the backend stuff was a learning curve. I have traveled away from my family multiple times for continued education and training.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about DFW Swim?
I teach survival swim and drowning prevention. Lessons are short and frequent and teaching this way has brought 100% success rate for learning to swim and float in their first session. ~ 6 weeks of lessons. I have had countless parents text me or send videos of their children self-rescuing where they could have otherwise drowned. Kids safety and learning to swim in a safe and effective way is at the heart of DFW Swim. I offer scholarships through various non-profits so all families have access to swim lessons.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
