Today we’d like to introduce you to Confesssions The Poet.
Confesssions, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story with writing actually began long before I understood what it meant.
In the third grade, my literature teacher gave our class a challenge: we could write a book about anything we wanted. The top three students—those who read the most books that year—would have their work published by the Tyler Public Library. I placed first. My book was titled How the Cheetah Got Its Spots. That moment planted something deep in me, even though I didn’t fully return to writing for many years after.
Fast forward to adulthood—during therapy, I was diagnosed with alexithymia, a condition that makes it difficult to identify and express emotions through words. Ironically, that diagnosis became the doorway back to my voice. As part of expressive therapy, I was introduced to journaling as a way to rebuild emotional intelligence and self-awareness. What began as healing quickly turned into remembering who I had always been.
Through expressive therapy, I started transforming journal entries into poetry. My therapist eventually encouraged me to attend an open mic—something I didn’t even know existed at the time. That night, I went home, Googled “poetry in Dallas,” and decided to step onto a stage for the first time. When I performed, the crowd went wild. People came up to me afterward wanting to talk, connect, and share their own stories—but the real joy wasn’t the applause. It was the release. For the first time, I was expressing myself clearly, in my own language, and people felt it.
After earning my Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Walden University, I founded Confessional Coaching, a practice rooted in cognitive reframing, emotional awareness, and spiritual alignment. My mission is to help people reconnect with their inner wisdom—what I often call the Inner God—and learn how to shift their mindset through intentional reflection, language, and self-trust. Through this work, I’ve helped over 250 individuals reframe limiting beliefs, navigate life transitions, and step into alignment with who they’re becoming.
Today, I live at the intersection of art and healing—using spoken word, coaching, and community work to remind people that their story is powerful, their voice matters, and healing doesn’t have to be silent.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has never been a smooth road—and I don’t believe it was meant to be.
My entire journey is rooted in what I call navigating life’s detours. Every workshop I teach and every poem I perform is a lived testimony—real experiences transformed into wisdom through reflection, education, and intentional reframing.
One of my biggest challenges was learning how to reframe my own mind while still being inside the process. Healing required me to become a student of Divine Strategy—which, to me, means learning how to observe life without immediately reacting, trusting timing, honoring inner guidance, and understanding that detours are developmental, not delays.
Being a student of Divine Strategy taught me discipline, surrender, and discernment. Over time, that devotion naturally positioned me as a teacher—not because I had everything figured out, but because I was willing to apply what I learned in real time.
There were moments of doubt, instability, and emotional resistance—especially when growth required letting go of old identities, environments, and habits. But each obstacle sharpened my clarity and strengthened my voice.
What once felt like struggle became curriculum.
And that’s what I now offer others: not perfection, but practiced wisdom—rooted in experience, guided by faith, and grounded in transformation.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in cognitive reframing through storytelling.
Through Confessional Coaching, I help people untangle limiting beliefs, process emotional experiences, and reconnect with their inner authority. My approach blends psychology, spirituality, and spoken word—meeting clients where they are and guiding them toward clarity rather than telling them who to be.
As Confessions the Poet, my spoken word performances function as both art and testimony. Each piece invites listeners into reflection, self-honesty, and healing without shame. I’m known for creating spaces where vulnerability feels safe, grounded, and empowering.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve helped over 150 people reframe their mindset and reclaim their voice—whether through coaching sessions, workshops, or live performance. What sets me apart is that I don’t separate wisdom from lived experience. I teach what I’ve practiced, and I practice what I teach.
At the core of everything I do is this belief: when people are given the language to understand themselves, they gain the power to change their lives.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Dallas is the skyline.
There’s something about seeing the downtown high-rises that feels like a call. The skyline tells me, the world is ready to see you. I often position myself in places where the buildings are visible and create from that energy—it inspires expansion, vision, and possibility.
What I like least is the homelessness crisis, especially in areas surrounding downtown. Seeing tent communities beneath bridges near the skyline is a stark reminder that growth and inequality often exist side by side. It’s an issue that deserves more compassion, attention, and sustainable solutions.
