Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahmed Elbur.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Ahmed, and I’m the founder of Maliqe. I was born and raised in the United Arab Emirates—what many people today know as Dubai. Just as Paris is synonymous with fashion, the UAE has a deep-rooted culture and appreciation for rich, expressive fragrances. Scent is part of everyday life there; it’s tied to identity, hospitality, and memory. Growing up in that environment naturally shaped my love for perfumery.
After moving to the United States and spending a few years here, I began to notice a pattern in how people approached fragrance. Many scents followed the same familiar profiles—safe, generic, and often forgettable. There was nothing wrong with them, but they lacked depth and emotion. That contrast stood out to me, especially coming from a culture where fragrance is meant to make a statement and tell a story.
That’s where the idea for Maliqe was born. I saw a gap in the market for bold, Arabic-inspired fragrances that feel luxurious, intentional, and emotionally evocative. My goal with Maliqe is to bring that richness to a wider audience—scents that don’t just smell good, but stir memories, spark curiosity, and leave a lasting impression. What started as a personal passion has grown into a brand rooted in heritage, craftsmanship, and the belief that fragrance should be felt, not just worn.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Building a brand from nothing is one of the hardest parts—especially in fragrance, where people need to experience the scent before they believe in it. In the beginning, no one knew who I was or what Maliqe stood for, and gaining that trust took time.
There were months with little to no sales, but I stayed focused on the long-term vision. I kept showing up, refining the product, and believing in the brand even when the results weren’t immediate. That persistence is what eventually led to recognition, momentum, and growth.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I lead the creative and olfactive direction for all Maliqe fragrances, shaping their character, depth, and emotional impact. Each scent is thoughtfully developed to embody the brand’s vision and create a lasting connection with the wearer.
What truly sets me apart is my work ethic and unwavering belief in the brand. I’m deeply involved in every aspect of the business, and I don’t cut corners. That belief fuels the long hours, the attention to detail, and the refusal to settle for anything that doesn’t feel exceptional.
How do you define success?
To me, success is measured by impact. It’s about how your work influences people, how it makes them feel, and the value it adds to their lives. If what you create leaves a positive mark on others and continues to resonate beyond the moment, that’s real success.
