Story & Lesson Highlights with Jasmine Jackson-Lewis of Dallas

Jasmine Jackson-Lewis shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Jasmine, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
My typical day is extremely hectic, filled with a multitude of responsibilities. As a corporate paralegal, I manage a demanding schedule. Concurrently, I am a full-time student at Tarrant County College, pursuing a degree in fashion merchandising. Additionally, I serve as the CEO and founder of Plusher Chic boutique and modeling agency. My weekly routine includes board meetings every Tuesday and Thursday, where I collaborate with attorneys to discuss ongoing cases. On Tuesdays, I schedule my classes either before or after these meetings. Following classes, I return home and commence work for the remainder of the day, starting on Monday night due to my on-call schedule. Given the time difference between my location in Texas and the firm’s headquarters in California, I am required to be available to address any urgent matters or deadlines. After completing my tasks, I prepare dinner for my husband, who arrives home around 5 PM. Later, I allocate time to relax and tackle any pending homework assignments. I typically retire to bed by 10 PM. During weekends, I attend to styling requests for clients and fulfill orders by mailing packages.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
As the founder and proprietor of Plusher Chic Boutique and Modeling Agency, I, Jasmine Jackson Lewis, have the privilege of working closely with aspiring models and established professionals alike, guiding them toward achieving their goals in the fashion industry. With a diverse roster of models boasting experience ranging from six months to over 15 years, our agency prides itself on fostering talent and versatility.

The name ‘Plusher Chic’ is derived from its core components: ‘Plus,’ signifying addition or enhancement; ‘Her,’ denoting the feminine essence; and ‘Chic,’ embodying elegance and refinement.

Thus, a woman who embodies Plusher Chic exemplifies poise, sophistication, and style that accentuates her inherent qualities with confidence.

Throughout my career, my passion for fashion has been evident in my ability to motivate and style individuals, particularly women, leveraging these strengths to deliver exceptional service as a boutique owner and modeling agent. My guiding principle is ‘Be Styled By Plusher Chic.’

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A pivotal moment that influenced my worldview was the loss of my mother, who had always been my constant source of support and comfort. With her by my side, I never felt isolated or solely responsible, regardless of the situation. However, following her passing, I came to realize that the world can be unforgiving, and achieving my goals requires unapologetic determination and faith in myself. One valuable lesson my mother imparted to me was the importance of ambition, which drives me to execute my visions and passions with unwavering dedication. Her passing, in fact, intensified this drive, and I am resolute in my pursuit of success, knowing that nothing can hinder my progress.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Undoubtedly, there were instances where I nearly lost momentum, particularly when progress seemed slower than anticipated. However, through persistent prayer and dedication, I have successfully identified key areas requiring improvement to propel my business forward. This realization prompted me to pursue further education in areas such as accounting operations, fabric studies, marketing, and business analytics. By applying the knowledge gained from these courses, I have been able to draw motivation during challenging times. Despite feelings of frustration, I recognize that perseverance is crucial, and I have invested considerable effort into my endeavors. I firmly believe that hard work and consistency ultimately yield results. On days when setbacks seem insurmountable, I regroup and refocus. When progress doesn’t meet expectations, I understand that timing plays a role. When opportunities don’t materialize as anticipated, especially in the fashion business, I remain patient and continue working diligently. I am convinced that with persistence and readiness, success will follow in due time. My motto: Stay Ready So You Won’t Have To Get Ready!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am dedicated to a project that requires perseverance and determination – establishing my own boutique and modeling agency. With the ultimate goal of launching my own firm, I am proactively pursuing educational opportunities to acquire the necessary knowledge and expertise. Recently, I sought guidance from a mentor with whom I have had prior experience in the fashion industry, having styled models for her fashion show. Although it can be challenging for me to request assistance or acknowledge areas where I need improvement, I have been inspired by the success of others in my field. Witnessing their achievements has instilled in me the confidence and conviction that I too can achieve my objectives with the right guidance.

My mentor’s leadership style, characterized by forthrightness, assertiveness, and a willingness to share valuable insights, has been particularly beneficial. Her advice has been instrumental in helping me avoid potential pitfalls, and I am grateful for her mentorship. With her guidance, I am resolute in my determination to establish a thriving modeling agency that will provide opportunities for numerous models, and I am eager to bring this vision to fruition.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
What I would regret not doing is attempting to pursue my goals regardless of the circumstances. If I fail to try and tackle areas where I feel inadequate or unsuccessful, it will hinder my personal growth more than not trying at all. I firmly believe that there are no insurmountable tasks, but I also recognize that success requires diligent effort, as nothing comes easily. The magnitude of the challenge can sometimes lead to procrastination, but persistence is key. It is essential to continually remind myself of my objectives and aspirations, as this inner drive will ultimately propel me toward achieving my goals. So I would regret not trying at all.
