Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Allen “Al-B” Spurlock

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Allen “Al-B” Spurlock. Check out our conversation below.

Allen “Al-B”, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Normally, my day starts with what I would call brand assessment. Establishing focus points on where the brand is currently at and where we are trying to push it to.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I started my journey in the music industry as part of a rap group in high school in Palestine, Texas. This experience ignited my passion for music and led me to develop my skills further as a music manager and producer in 2005. As I learned the business, I started to envision building my own established brand.

With that vision in mind, I founded Music Lovers Brand—a digital media company dedicated to all things music, culture, and entertainment. At Music Lovers Brand, we create original content and offer video production services and marketing solutions. One of our standout projects is the podcast “Can I Vent,” which has gained significant traction in the hip-hop space and is currently gearing up for its exciting Season 2.

Additionally, we’ve launched a comedy TV series called “That’s Funny Ain’t It.” This series captures the vibrant spirit of a house party, complete with food, drinks, and laughter, turning it into a uniquely filmed TV experience.

As I continue to establish and grow Music Lovers Brand, my focus remains on creating opportunities for talented individuals while doing good business and fostering creativity in the industry.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped my perspective was when I discovered the validity and power of manifestation. I came to understand that the universe not only responds to the energy we put out, but often matches and exceeds it. This realization transformed how I approach my goals and aspirations, reinforcing the idea that our intentions can significantly influence our reality.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds in my life have often stemmed from failures. At times, these experiences brought feelings of shame. However, I eventually realized that I shouldn’t feel guilty for not knowing things that I hadn’t been taught yet. Instead, I’ve come to see failure as a vital teacher. The key is to embrace those lessons and ensure that I don’t fail to learn from them. This shift in perspective has been crucial in my healing process and growth.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is authenticity. To me, authenticity isn’t about striving for perfection; it’s about being willing to handle situations with integrity and civility. I prioritize creating high-quality projects, engaging in fair business dealings, and fostering opportunities for others. This commitment to authenticity guides everything I do and shapes the culture I aim to cultivate.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand deeply that, while it may sound simple, consistent quality truly wins in the long run. When you combine that with fair business dealings and a humble attitude, even in times of success, it makes a significant difference. This approach not only builds trust but also fosters lasting relationships, setting the foundation for sustainable growth.
