Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Liz Alvarez

Liz Alvarez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Liz, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Home Care is very often confused with Home Health, but the difference is simple. Home Care focuses on non-medical support, and that is exactly what we provide.

Our services range from companionship to full personal care, as well as specialized care such as Dementia Care, Parkinson’s Care, Senior Care, and Veterans Care.

We are proud to offer personalized care that adapts to each client’s unique needs, always delivered with compassion, dignity, and professionalism. Our goal is to support our clients so they can remain safe, comfortable, and well cared for in the place they call home.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Liz Alvarez, and I am the owner of ComForCare Home Care serving the DFW area. I lead a passionate team dedicated to helping seniors, veterans, and individuals with chronic conditions live safely and comfortably in the place they call home.

What makes our organization truly special is that we don’t just provide care — we care like family. Our services are non-medical and range from companionship and personal care to specialized support for dementia, Parkinson’s, and veterans. Every client we serve receives a personalized care plan, and we take the time to truly understand their needs, routines, and life stories.

My journey into home care is deeply personal. I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful compassionate care can be, not only for the individual receiving it but also for the family who gains peace of mind. That experience shaped my mission and our core values, especially “Dignity Matters.” We believe every person deserves to be treated with respect, patience, and kindness at every stage of life.

Beyond providing care, I am deeply committed to educating and supporting our community. We regularly host and participate in workshops on fall prevention, dementia awareness, and healthy aging because empowering families with knowledge is just as important as hands-on care.

Today, I’m proud to say that we are growing throughout the DFW area while staying rooted in what matters most: building genuine relationships, serving with heart, and helping our clients truly live their best life possible.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
It’s interesting because I didn’t always know this would be my path. But when I finally had the opportunity to choose from scratch what I wanted to do based on my true passions, everything became very clear to me. Helping others — especially seniors — has always been in my heart.

I’ve always been the kind of person who stops to help. One memory that has stayed with me comes from when I was younger. I was in the car with my mom, and we noticed an older gentleman trying to cross a busy street. He was carrying several grocery bags, appeared confused, and had a vision impairment. I asked my mom to stop the car so I could help him. She did, and I ran over to him. When I asked if he needed help, he smiled and said, “I just need to get to the other side of the street.” I helped him safely cross that large, dangerous avenue, and he thanked me over and over again. I returned to the car with my heart completely full.

Moments like that define who I am. Helping brings me genuine joy, and it always has.

I also believe that the deep and beautiful relationship I had with my grandparents shaped how I connect with seniors today. Being close to them taught me patience, compassion, and the importance of honoring someone’s life story. That bond is something I carry with me in everything I do, and it’s what allows me to see seniors not just as people who need help, but as individuals who deserve dignity, respect, and heartfelt care.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
During COVID, especially toward the end, there were moments when it felt overwhelming. What kept me going was my commitment to my clients, my caregivers, and their families. They needed me, and giving up was never an option. That experience only strengthened my purpose, and I will never give up on the people I serve.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Family — at all costs.

I believe family is the foundation of everything. It shapes our values, our compassion, and the way we show up for others. Anyone who comes to ComForCare becomes part of our ComForCare family — our clients, their loved ones, and our caregivers. We care for each other with dignity, respect, and genuine love.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I believe what my clients and caregivers would miss most is the genuine care and presence I bring. Earlier this year, I faced some health challenges and had to step back a bit, moving more behind the scenes. Even then, I was reminded how strong those relationships are — they missed me, and I truly missed them too.

At the same time, I’m incredibly proud of the team I’ve built. Even when I’m not personally in contact with every client or caregiver, the care remains the same. That’s because our culture is rooted in truly caring for each person as an individual. Whether I’m front and center or working quietly in the background, that heart of care is always present.
